  1. Maybe Chelsea had the better part of the deal after all. Torres looks 10 times the player that Carroll is, even when he's missing sitters. It's like comparing a racehorse to a shirehorse. You know that Torres will end up scoring goals but Carroll doesn't look like there is another gear in him and he is only in 2nd

  5. The Kop & Centenary house 26,000. There could be a phased release of seats within one of the new stands and a fixture list that has us playing away games until the seats are ready. It could be done.
  6. Looked to me like Spearing was the anchor man and he was very accomplished at it too. Spearing gets overlooked for the role he plays, in much the same way as Lucas a year or two back, but I like him a lot. He never hides, is a born leader and is a much more composed and rounded player than he is given credit for. He is the natural replacement in the side for Lucas and will prove an invaluable squad member this season, just as he finished last year.
  7. Press Association HHH COURTS Liverpool time icon 17 Feb 2011 - 10:58 By Stephen Howard, Press Association Page 1: 10:58 The Texan former owner of Liverpool Football Club was given the chance today to launch massive damages claims over the sale of the Premier League side after orders barring action in the US were varied by a High Court judge in London. Tom Hicks wanted Mr Justice Floyd to lift anti-suit orders which prevented him taking action in the Texas courts to halt the deal in which he claims he lost £140 million. The judge dismissed that application but varied the anti-suit injunction to allow Mr Hicks to make applications in the US in support of any proceedings in this country if he gives seven days notice to the parties he is suing. Mr Hicks believes he was the victim of an "epic swindle" when the club was sold against his wishes to New England Sports Ventures for £300 million. Mr Justice Floyd also dismissed an application to strike out or stay claims by Sir Martin Broughton, former chairman of the club, seeking damages against Mr Hicks for his actions while owner. New England Sports Ventures' application to be allowed to join the Broughton action was granted by the judge. NESV bought the club after repaying a £237 million loan Mr Hicks and his former partner George Gillett took out with the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wells Fargo and Co.
  8. Has anyone seen a replay of the Terry tackle on Lucas? My impression was it was a 2 footed studs up challenge and I was screaming red card only to find that the ref played on, the commentators barely mentioned it and there was no mention afterwards in the studio. Did I see it wrrong?
  9. It's all about replacements now. Torres has gone, we have to make sure we use the money wisely. It can be done, Suarez is an excellent start now bring in a few more.
  10. Danny's staying then http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/transfer-rumours/4549/4/agent-agger-will-not-be-leaving-liverpool
  11. Ayala is back after his spell with Hull, where he seemed to make a very good impression. He is strong in the air and a lot more mobile than Kyrgiakos. Skrtel is costing us big time and needs to be replaced now. We have some really good defensive prospects in Wilson & Kelly but neither are dominant aerially. The same could be said for Carragher & Agger and the only player on our books who can win the first ball, other than the Greek, is Ayala. He can't be any worse than Skrtel at the moment and could save us a shedload of money.
  12. Conor Wychkam would suit us as well at the moment. Big, athletic, skilful, young striker and apparently a red too. Come on Commoli, get yer finger out
  13. Henry & Werner are no mugs and there has to be a logical reason for not sacking Hodgson after last night's result. The only thing I can think of is that they are well advanced with a plan to change the entire management structure of the club and they don't want to do it piecemeal by removing one of the key personnel. I think they have been struck by the way clubs have hired & fired in the past, not least with Rafa who cost a big wedge to remove him and with him went most of the coaching staff. In comes Hodgson with more coaching staff and when he fails, the whole club is back in crisis with numerous fresh appointments required, usually at the behest of the incoming manager. The merry-go-round continues and each time the club has to rebuild from scratch. It could be that they are trying to introduce the "collegiate" structure they talk about at the Red Sox. Each member of staff would be appointed direct by the owners or their people to fulfill a particular role. Just as Comolli was appointed without Hodgson having any real say in the matter. Their loyalties are to the club & the owners, they are a part of the decision-making management team and if one person leaves eg the manager, the rest remain in place ensuring continuity. This goes for all the coaches as well. This being so, maybe they are working on this structure now and don't want the upheaval of temporary manager & coaches when a revolutionary plan is close to fruition. In other words, they are looking to the long term and as much as it infuriates us all they will stick to it. Hodgson has no part to play in this vision but they want to make sure that the whole plan is in place before he goes. There again, they might be completely useless w*****s who are dancing to Purslow's tune.
  14. I wasn't advocating it, the point is everyone's thinking it will be Kenny but the owners will see things differently. Let's face it they must have taken some seriously bad advice to get themselves in this hole now, Hodgson should have gone months ago
  15. I imagine they are having one final attempt to bring in their preferred permanent appointment but with a contingency in mind as a caretaker. The caretaker could be interesting. I think they are s*** scared that appointing Kenny will be seen as surrendering to the masses and will come back & bite them so they are considering other options. Wonder how people would feel if it's say Sammy Lee with Jamie Carragher?
  16. The big change in me has been the lowering stress levels leading up to and during the game. Usually I'm a bag of nerves and I get seriously uptight, gripped by tension and it doesn't let loose unless we are 3-0 up going into injury time. Now, I go to games expecting us to be sh*te and either I get what I expected eg Wolves or a bit better and can feel happier eg Bolton. My relations with fans of other clubs has improved as well. They used to give me a load of grief with crap like "you were lucky" if we had won 1-0 or 2-1 and I was always prepared to rise to the bait and defend the performance of the side, but now I find myself admitting that we are garbage and can empathise with fans of Wigan or Stoke or even Everton on the basis our team is just as sh*t as theirs. Fact is, Hodgson with plenty of help from Hicks & Gillett have turned us into an average, mid-table team and now I know what it feels like to be a supporter of an ordinary club. Please make it go away
  17. The Academy to take over at Melwood?
  18. "I think it is right, I could be selfish and make short term signings that could help me, but that begs the question of when you get a job like this at Liverpool, should you be working for the long-term good of Liverpool or trying to get an extra result or two for Roy Hodgson?," he explained. "I'd like to think I am big enough and confident enough to take the long-term view even though it might work against me. I might even prefer that in some ways because I would be very disappointed if I went out in January and spent a lot of money on the wrong players and then, come the summer, we are no better off. "All we would be doing is adding a few more players who we don't think are good enough to the roster. I would be disappointed if I did that. I can't guarantee it won't happen but it is not my intention." So was that your philosophy last summer then Roy when you lumbered our roster with ageing inferior s**** like Poulsen, Konchesky & Jones just because you wanted the short term fix of players you knew? The tone of all this is "I'm still in charge of new signings" despite Commoli's presence. It's also yet another exercise in bigging himself up, "look Mr Henry, aren't I being responsible with your money and what a great job I'm doing with such a small squad, making better players out of Lucas & Skretl". Can't say I've noticed you have made any improvements to Torres, in fact the entire team are performing individually & collectively at way below the standard they set 2 years ago.
  19. I thought Rafa had to go provided we brought someone in who was better. We didn't, and I don't see a better candidate out there at the moment so I would have him back in a flash. I also think, taking Rimbeaux's comments on board, that he would come back as a wiser man, humbled by events and determined to put things right. He would also be more suited to our new structure where Commoli would take the pressure off him on scouting and the Academy. All that said, the key bit for me is to see the back of Hodgson, we are a laughing stock while he is in charge
  20. I don't agree with that. In my opinion, we DO have a decent squad which is massively underperforming under a terrible manager. A good manager would be licking his lips at fielding a side including Reina, Johnson, Agger, Carragher, Aurelio, Maxi, Meireles, Gerrard, Cole, Babel & Torres with Kuyt, Lucas & Skretl in reserve and top kids like Pacheco, Suso, Kelly, Shelvey etc emerging. Loaning out Insua & Aquilani while bringing in Konchesky & Poulson was a monumental mistake. We do have some poor players on the books who need to be moved on but if we had a good, forward-thinking man-manager capable of setting up a team to maximise our strengths we would not be talking about a major overhaul. Our deficiencies are in pace, power & athleticism and 3 or 4 new players with all of those attributes to complement the existing players would have us back in the mix.
  21. Waching the games yesterday and Paul f***ing Robinson was playing great for Bolton and Assou-Ekotto (sp) was the same for Spurs. Our undroppable left back cost those two put together and is far worse than both - even Paul f***ing Robinson. It's yet another criticism of the manager, not just that he buys s*** players but he also plays them even if they are responsible for most of the goals conceded. He is weak and could rival Tony Blair for his cronyism
  22. This all sounds too gimmicky, a live phone-in with the owners big deal. I don't want to hear a load of stage-managed platitudes I just want them to take some decisive action. Deeds not more words, we had all that sh*te with the previous lot. There is no way they are going to say anything meaningful about our useless manager or shocking results so what the f*** is the point? If it's meant as some sort of backslapping exercise to congratulate them on free tickets for kids, then great, thanks for that guys but can you also explain why we are getting progressively worse under your control so what the f*** are you going to do about that?

The passion is fast disappearing from me. I just accept the garbage masquerading in a red shirt as just another bad day at the office. I start to get angry but then subside into a mute realisation that this is where we are now, we are an average mid-table team on the slide. We have been on this slippery slope for a long time now, but the focus has always been on the previous owners. While G&H were there, we knew who the enemy was, we were aware that the club had no future in their hands and we dreamed of the time when we could at last be free of their spiteful influence, permeating the club from top to bottom. The euphoria when the moment came and G&H were shafted, Purslow's raised fist coming out of court, Lord Grabiner becoming an honorary red and the new owners ushered in as "winners" perhaps raised our expectations that the worst was over, we had turned the dreaded corner and could again dream of taking our rightful place at the top table of domestic & European football. Unfortunately, I like most others, under-estimated the malaise that had taken grip of the club. Far too many bad decisions at every level have taken us to the position we are in now. A dysfunctional management structure has created division all the way through to the dressing room. In fact it's a good thing the Academy is separate from Melwood because that part of the club seems to be the only area still imbued with the principles of the Liverpool Way. I thought at the time of the takeover that the new owners should use their honeymoon period well, to adopt the new broom sweeps clean approach and to be decisive after such a long period of inertia from the top, but they have taken a different view. Fair enough, they know how to run a sporting empire better than I ever will. But there are signs that, in fact, we are declining. That we have not reached the end of the slippery slope and while we won't hit freefall because there is still a semblance of a decent side and a fanbase which still, just, demands high standards we can tread water in mid-table. One of those signs is when our best players are performing so badly that we think we might be better off selling them. Torres, Johnson, Agger for example. And then we laud those who are are putting in the effort, showing some guts and work rate, but who are in the final analysis short of the quality we need to step up above our current, mediocre, station. It's unfair to name them because they are doing their best, but ultimately their best is not good enough for the Liverpool Football Club that I remember. I'm resigned to the fact that we will not turn this around in one or two inspired transfer windows. It will be a long haul and a complete rebuilding exercise. I don't think FSV are anywhere near appreciating the task they have inherited nor have any handle on what is needed to reverse the downward spiral. But eventually, the penny will drop and too late, they will have to take surgical action. The legacy of G & f***ing H and all who sailed with them. I'm off to bed, b******s to the lot of them for spoiling another Saturday f***ing night
  24. He has an enormous ego, he just can't stop patting himself on the back and telling the entire planet what a f***ing great manager he thinks he is.
  25. I wanted him out and still do but I've given up waiting for the axe to fall now. Maldini is right, he will be here until the summer like it or lump it. My expectations are way down, Hodgson has succeeded in that respect, I'm just hoping for some decent games to see between now and the rest of the season without any belief that we will come close to 4th let alone winning anything. It will be sod's f***ing law, that NESV finally get their act together in the summer and we start the season with a dynamic new manager and some quality signings only to find that all the best sides have shrugged off all their sh*teness from this season and we are back to the situation 2 years ago where 2 defeats all year wasn't enough to win the league.
