the last goal on that clip v QPR (his second in a 2-1 win in 87 if memory if working correctly) is the one I think of when I think of Barnes. An awesome player. In between times, Owen goes to Newcastle and in doing so manages to f*** Liverpool (and Rafa) again. How much pressure was put on Rafa to sign him from Parry etc is unclear. To suggest that Rafa will go back and try to sign Owen again for a second time (or to persuade him to be/remain a Liverpool player for a third time) is nonsense. The team has moved on. We are in a CL final based on a TEAM ethic, not a one man strikeforce. Owen is now 28(?) has barely played in 2 years and is rapidly approaching the end of his career as a top class striker, if the injuries havent done for him already. The forwards we sign in the summer will firstly WANT to come here, not to escape from a no-mark club or to win their place back in an international team but because they want to play for Liverpool. If Eto'o, Villa or whoever need to be given the hard sell by Benitez I'd wager that Benitez wont bother to pursue it. Owen has had the hard sell twice. That ship has sailed. On the plus side, Fowler, Bellamy, Alonso, Sissoko, Hyypia and Arbeloa all got a ful 90 minutes. Reina, Finna and Pennant came thru unscathed. Harry Kewell got a run out and Insua had an ok game. Perhaps Rafa will learn more about some of the others out there - Gonzalez Paletta and El Zhar. I thought El Zhar didnt get into the game at all and Gonzalez was poor. Paletta was ok.

using the reserves for youths only is the way to go, no point having Diao and Cheyrou earning 40k a week in there cos everyone knows theyre up to f*** all and will never make it Much more beneficial from the clubs point of view to have 17 and 18 year olds in there with something to prove and with some possible benfit to the club - i.e. them making the step up from youth ro reserve level, coping with it etc, maybe playing with better players (those already established in the reserves) etc. True Rafa has given chances to youth in the Carling Cup and in some non critical CL games. I expect him to do the same over the final 2 league games. A chance for a couple to start both games with the majority of the bench being from the youths also. Can only be a good thing surely.

Fowler, Hyypia, Arbeloa, Zenden, Gonzales, Sissoko, Paletta, Bellamy should all start and play the full 90 line up with the above as - - - - - GK - - - - - - arbeloa - hyypia - paletta - LB RM - sissoko - zenden - gonzales - - - - fowler - bellamy - - - - - GK - Play Padelli - for the full game or Dudek - Give Reina a day off. Pick a RM and a LB from the 1st team and sub em off at half time. Could use Riise/Insua, Pennant/one of the youth team Little risk, gives the guys from the semi 2nd leg a bit of a break and keeps the rest of the squad fresh. Could stick Alonso on for a half too seeing as he didnt get a full game on Tuesday. Taking 2 off at half time may pose problems later in the game if soneone gets injured and we've used the 3rd sub but theres nothing riding on this for us anyway so sod it. Play the strongest team the following game. As for the relegation 'battle' f*** it, not our problem, bigger fish and all that
