We're going back a bit if we're including Agger and Mascherano chaps. I've not said good Jan business is impossible but the fact city do it almost every season is more a reflection of their finances v ours rather than better scouting or more decisive action.

Thing is, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I get we chat s*** on here but we also have a habit of getting mad about stuff we can't know about. I agree generally that I've been frustrated that just one more player in Jan could have had a greater impact than our hierarchy appear to believe but also generally Jürgen managed them through that and we got stronger as the season went on. Andy Carroll treated like a dog, as he should be. That's 4 Jan windows out of 15. We're not major operators in Jan. I don't know the stats but I'd suspect city have probably done major business in 10 of those windows.

Yeah but it's a few good windows over a long period of time, essentially since FSG bought us. So given we've done good Jan business (more often we've not done business in Jan, mind) maybe we should trust that beyond Guehi there isn't anyone they rate enough to work changing summer plans for? I'm absolutely sure that if their #1 CB target for the summer was available now for a modest Jan premium, they'd be here already.
