It is a f'cking curse. Is that their first shot on our goal? Nice one Mr Gerrard - thank you for saving the rest of the weekend.
  2. to be fair Babel made, then missed, that chance - great direct running and a perfectly weighted pass to Kuyt
  3. Good move from Rafa you'd think - Pennant booked and fading a little...
  4. Barry is a horrible little clunt, really. Think Xabi is way off the pace, and Riise is only still there cos Rafa is worried that Babel won't track back enough, I'm sure. As per usual an oppo goalie is having a great game against us. Gerrard should have a hattrick in this game, he'd deserve it, too.
  5. yeah, apart from that On the matter in hand, I can't see how the Hammers can start the season in this division, and the FA/Prem retain any credibility at all. As clear a flouting of the laws as there can be without a signed note from Egghead saying "we cheated, and every one of our players is on drugs, and all your refs are c*nts". Even then you wonder if the authorities would do anything...
  6. Was going to say exactly the same thing - get the legal right to sign Heinze proved, then reject him on medical grounds that he's slower than setting cement nowadays, and send him back, just as the transfer window closes - Fergie could never pick him again after he's so vocally expressed a desire to leave and come to us. That situation could only get funnier if Evra tore a hamstring on the first day of the season, leaving them with only Heinze for that position too.
  7. In world football, surely? There can't be a more expensive league to watch football in than the Prem, and they are the most expensive tickets in the country, so...
  8. "Get yer boots son, you've pulled"* *(in spanish, of course)
  9. tornado + mayhem = carnage Sell Babel! But actually yes, agree with all and sundry, I think he's gonna be a cracker. A proper flying dutchman. fyds, what do your edam-eating cloggy connections reckon? Dunno about being *more* excited than about Torres, but certainly great news, and a stolen march on Arsenal, who had him lined up.
  10. So you're saying we're only any good against sh*t teams, at home, in the middle of the season? Jesus, I'm worried now! I think it's as much psychological as anything. We beat Barca away FFS, which I think means we could do it away at frigging Bolton or Villa - the players/Rafa just need to have the arrogance of the Manc players/Mourinho and go to these places with the sh*tty stick out, expecting to beat other teams at their place, rather than "hoping to build on a clean sheet", as it were.
  11. Who are you and what do you want?
  12. Hmmm, good point. Would certainly explain the hoovering-up of decent youngsters we're joining in with, that Arsenal and Chelsea have been at for a while now.
  13. sh*t really? that one obviously passed me by on the 2.5 half days I haven't been in here over the last 5 years...damn!
  14. surely we already have Harry for this?
  15. oh, the irony
  16. seems likely given the number of attacking midfielders we seem to have now... Unless Rafa has suddenly decided that we're playing 4-2-4 attack! attack! attack!
  17. I know it's the 'Tube, but at 2:50 he scores a peach of a goal that could be straight out of T.Henry's showreel. Shows to go to the inside, knocks it on the outside past two defenders - beats them both for pace - then catches the ball, turns his body and clips it right footed past the on-rushing keeper. What I like is that the move started on the edge of the box - much like where we often find opponents camped. Oh and the digger comments elsewhere - if JCB and Rafa rate him, that'll do.
  18. I also like to think that maybe Yossi (and a few of the other signings) will show our allegedly much superior players how to run off the ball more intelligently, so making space for passes and gaps for other runners. It's been our biggest systematic flaw for years, and only Stevie and Luis seemed to have a good idea of how to move without the ball. I wonder if this is one of the qualities that Rafa is looking for in the new signings...you don't need pace as much as guile and brains when you're playing against packed defences... and Benayoun looks to have that in spades.
  19. from our politically correct judge in Kazhakstan!
  20. Not remotely surprised, except by various england "managers" overlooking him. I don't blindly herald LFC players as the best in their position over obviously classy rivals, but in JC's case I fail to see any defender in Britain that's better (Terry is perhaps his equal) and can't immediately think of one on the continent who's clearly better. A defender is there to stop goals and attacks, and JC does that as well as anyone in the game. Hope this is true. F'ck 'em.
  21. I think as Negativland said elsewhere, we may be surprised by where Lucas plays. I gather he's a leftie, and pretty mobile, so I'd imagine he could be a rather useful left-mid, even if he's not going to be a line-hugging winger. A left-sided Gerrard if you like (No pressure) Oh - I've just remembered who we last said that about (shudder).
  22. Apparently with his second touch of the keepy-uppy he also managed to change the gravitational constant, G, so the ball floated down more slowly! Incredible! Even the laws of physics bow to the unbounded ability of Rooney! Is he related to Chuck Norris by any chance?
  23. Case closed! Carson to Sunderland in the next transfer window, breaks both arms and legs in training ground 'incident' with Keane, never plays above Rymans League level again. It's the gypsy curse of the 1 shirt!
