  1. Derby looked half decent earlier. Will Hughes standing out so far. As in his bleach-blonde hair makes him easy to spot.
  2. Players need to get in the ref's ear. Suarez will either get sent off or have his leg broken otherwise.
  3. No mention of that quality layoff for Hendo's miss by Aspas?
  4. I'm convinced that's not Coutinho on the pitch. Stunt double perhaps, whose passing is utterly woeful.
  5. Alberto for Allen was the straightforward sub. Putting Smith (who is supposedly a left back?), at left mid when chasing a game in which we were second best weakened us significantly. Alberto would have given us some calm and passing ability. Curious to understand the logic because to me it was a stupid move. Chelsea were the better team by some margin anyway I thought.
  6. Weren't we trying to get in Siqueira (who admittedly looked really good on youtube highlights) but didn't want to pay the asking price? We gave up, and got in Cissokho instead. Then on deadline day Granada shipped Siqueira on loan...
  7. I think what we have lost from Reina's ability on the ball - which for me is a huge asset - we have gained almost two-fold in Mignolet's ability to save shots.
  8. Think for us fans it's about the trust in the people who are in position to make these decisions. Don't think we'd be discussing this much If Ayre had shown he was more Robinson/Dein than Purslow, and if FSG weren't so obesessed with keeping a manageable wage bill / structure (see rumours about Glen Johnson).
  9. It was a tricky game today. Cissokho and Flanagan were not giving us the kind of attacking impetus wingbacks are meant to in this formation. Lucas and Gerrard struggled with the spaces around them, where Arsenal thrive. Henderson a few times (esp early first half where he ran into space and scuffed the shot) found himself in the advance positions which you'd want Gerrard. Moses came on but ended up playing tucked in and deep, when he should have been in the wider positions against the fullbacks, to take them on. Suarez and Sturridge had an off-game as a partnership; one of those days they both looked like they didn't want to pass to each other (I'd like to see the stats, felt like it was about 5 passes they made to each other). No idea what the solutions are, but the concern is that Rodgers has not addressed the glaring issue which is a soft central midfield. I'm reminiscing about the displays against Chelsea away 10-11, Man Utd home 09-10, Fulham 10-11 and Man City home 11-12. Is it a personnel issue?
  10. Watching Euro 2004 highlights. Luis' elder brother was in the Dutch squad...

    Skrtel

Thought he was very good again today.
  12. Was just thinking of this song as well - love it! Perhaps this could work? MMMamadou dou-dou dou-dou-dou MMMamadou dou-dou-dou-dou MMMamadou dou-dou dou-dou-dou dou-dou-dou dou-dou-dou dou-dou-dou-dou-dou Mamadou Sakho!!!
  13. I was thinking this as well. Did Rodgers once say in an interview that his ideal formation is actually a 3-4-3, or did I imagine that? Not sure how good Sakho is on the ball, but I can see Agger and Toure being very good as the wider CB's. Johnson and Enrique as wing-backs seem like natural fits on paper. At a stretch you could even push Johnson out to the left and use Henderson out on the right. As some have pointed out, that would allow Gerrard and Lucas to pivot. I'd have Coutinho and Suarez playing in free roles off Sturridge.
  14. Very pleased with this signing. Thought he looked really good for Wigan when they were on that run towards the end of 11/12.
  15. Wasn't too long ago when he always looked to pass the ball when anywhere close to goal, even though a shot on goal was the far better option.
  16. We should be able to beat Spurs to players. I'm not going to lie, if all this comes to pass it will be a shot in the arm for Spurs - they would have replaced Bale rather adequately- and quite the kick in the nads for us missing out on another player, but this time to a rival. More disappointed that Lamela is moving to Spurs as he looks a proper talent given I knew nothing about Willian until about a week ago. Think the only consolation is that Arsenal fans are probably feeling even more uneasy (understatement!) about today's transfer developments....
  17. Lamela - now that's a proper player. If he was available, why have we not been in for him? Is it because Baldini has connections in the Italian league (that he knew of Lamela's availability)?
  18. Very pleasantly surprised he started today. My impression of him when he first played for us was that he was a tidy player who lacked grit and confidence. He's sincce matured into a warrior. Glad he stuck around to fight for his spot, can see him consistently hitting 10+ goals per season in the years to come.
  19. I understand that our ins and outs this summer have put us in the black. Where is our annual 15-20m summer budget + the new TV money? The likes of Cardiff, Norwich, Swansea and Southampton have gone out and bought some interesting players and have bolstered their first teams and squads with the new TV money. I think we are being force-fed this line (by inference) about how we're no longer competitive in the market for players, as an excuse for not shelling out the money. Then again I'm always a sceptic... Let's say the owners were aggressive this summer and we had budget of £50m plus good wages. We pursue two of the top up-and-coming European talents (in the Lamela, Ljajic, and Muriel bracket). Sell them the project of taking Liverpool back into European football's elite. Tell them they will co-star in a team with Suarez, Gerrard, Coutinho, Johnson, Sturridge and Agger - all quality footballers. I think they would come, and I dare say they would pick us over Spurs (even though they have the EL). It would be the same if Inter Milan came calling with the same kind of project. Maybe I'm naive, but the name/reputation, tradition and recent success of football clubs mean something.
  20. If that were the case I'd be a lot more relieved. It's coming across to me like we have no intention to spend any money (net). Everything looks suspicious - Mkhitaryan and Costa bids heavily reported from our end, but reported as not having gone anywhere in regards to negotiations afterwards. Loan deals for the Benfica left back and Cissokho. Then all of a sudden Siqueira is linked strongly for a move of ~£5m; couple days later Downing goes for a fee of that approximate amount.
  21. It is his opening move. He's come out and pleaded with the club openly, insisting they are reneging on a promise to let him go. It's up to the club to respond to it, either privately or publicly. Either ways, that means he gets another round in the press, either via an interview or "close sources".
  22. Surely they know we'll report them in the same way Boro did to us over Ziege - bidding £40m+£1 in the belief that they've triggered his release means there's no turning back. They must believe that any sanction (in the way of a fine) will be of less value than the ~£10m difference we are asking for. Or they are confident they'll be found innocent... Does anyone know if the PL amended their rules to have stricter penalties regarding release clause leaks after the Ziege case?
  23. It's got so many fans agitated, hasn't it? I imagine you're seething as well? Looks like a good opening move to me.
  24. Why should they? There are 3 more weeks to go before the transfer window closes, and they're waiting for Suarez to make his play, which he has done.
