He'll get plenty of games in place of Origi. He presses like a demon and he can clearly finish. I think it would be a lot better for his development to play 40 games on loan somewhere with 35 starts, but given we're not signing anyone I reckon he could get 20 appearances for us (8 starts).

There's a thread on the Swansea reddit forum where a Liverpool fan has asked how he's progressing for them. These are the responses. Interesting to hear their perspectives. On the point of his getting "locked out of games" when they don't get him the ball - that accords with what I've seen when I've watched Swansea. But also, there's not much he can do when he's leading the line and they hardly get the f***ing ball past halfway.

There's loads of defenders who are good well into their 30s, and none of them are sublime athletic specimens like Virge. I'm ok with his age. He'll make 29 look like the new 26.

Yes, silly me, I had no idea he was a new player learning his trade. Thank f*** you reminded me! Yes, obviously he'll get better. I just think he'll need to improve pretty sharply to be at a good enough level where he can be trusted to contribute to our first team. Right now Jones looks like he can come and be useful (and yes, I'm aware he's older), but I think Williams is a liability when he comes in. And I've seen other young players look better in their first few games. But anyway, we're not signing anyone so presumably we'll have plenty of opportunity to witness how quickly he improves.

So I think there's too steep a drop-off when Williams comes in for TAA, and he doesn't offer enough with his crossing or his defending at this stage and he should go on loan to get better and we should get someone else to cover RB (which we won't do, because we're not spending). Thoughts?

They've got 32 points out of 42, they're clearly doing well. Hopefully it's going to be like those seasons under Rafa when we'd be dogs*** for a while and then put together a great run at the end of the season to get everyone's hopes up and then fail to challenge seriously again the next season.
