  1. is this a joke?it's always been the cup with the big ears. i always had the impression that was a particularly LFC term of affection - typical scouse humour of taking away the grandeur with a joke too.you also only get to call someone by a nickname once you're close to them, and have a shared history...
  2. they should sell em at the club shop!

apart from anything else, kewell may be seen commercially as a dwindling asset. lfc may not wish to renew his contract as he will probably be earlyn 30s at the end of it and they see gonzalez as the future. maybe rafa thinks that this would help him get defoe for around 4m net allowing more expenditure elsewhere. a bit of a gamble if true, but i'm not surprised if it is being considered

"Done Deal"; adv/n.; coll. phrase; a completed transaction. Note - invariably used prematurely and its citation is often the curse on transaction in question.

cos 1. he's a midge 2. he nicked milan's blinkers 3. he's a spurs reject 4. he's a cockernee - how many have played for us? 5. he's a cocky cockernee who fancies himself 6. his contribution to team build-up is lower than owen's. all that said, he is an improvement on mori, cisse, flo-po, mellor and milan in that out and out role, so whilst I have my reservations, I am hoping if he is ours, rafa will bring out the undoubted potential
  20. http://www.cfc-net.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?T...933&whichpage=3 my favourite comment is on page 1 "not a gerrard fan". i remember in the 80s when an ITV commentator or analyst - St John? - said that Nicol "was not his cup of tea for a right back". personally, i have no problem in saying that john terry, wayne rooney and thierry henry are all wonderful players.
  21. any club who can pack in 55k or so fans will make a lot of revenue and should be able to buy a lot of talent. one day, they may get those purchases right. the difficulty they have is in persuading people to go to a north east outhole with no established real history to speak of. very few of their purchases have been good enough - shearer, possibly bellamy. most of them are dross. until they manage to attract the right players (not necessarily the best as rafa always says), they will continue to frustrate their fans, who are right to have reasonably high expectations, because they do have the basic components to be a big club put another way, whilst they have potential to go out and spend £20m a summer, I will always be wary that it is possible that one day they could be seeking to compete with the big 4 in the league. some of the other managers often mention n'castle at the start of the season as a possible challenger. personally, i think roeder's run has flattered to deceive, and that they are still a long way off. the other thing that holds them back is freddy shepherd. and this idea that shearer is their saviour manager in waiting!
  22. er, i think he's admiring liverpool as a club, from top to bottom...
  23. i think the Hammers name was on the cup but the reds just refused to acknowledge it! 3 freak goals injuries to kewell and alonso, coinciding with garcia's suspension (who said the hammers would miss mullins more than we'd miss luis), meaning we were short of creativity 1 disallowed red goal everyone now knows they're in for a fight when they take us on!
  24. is baraja no longer the force of old? and they still rate del horno?!
  25. jonathan northcott in the sunday times said if west ham had gerrard, they would have won 10-0. maybe it was meant flippantly, but it is the sort of crass journalism that bugs me after a good match. sentences starting with "If" are inherently dodgy in match reviews. Particularly when you decide arbitrarily you could take someone from one side to the other, and not even replace them anyway! pr!ck!
