The problem isn't with the clubs or the refs.....it's with the FA. If they supported they're referees properly, then we wouldn't have this inconsistency. UEFA support their refs and they don't half the trouble.

Because fans (and I've met plenty of United fans who this applies to, probably more than Liverpool fans to be honest) generally don't see the decisions that go in their favour. They get so wrapped up in what went wrong that they don't see what went right. It's a glass half full thing.

I see your points, George, but Ferguson isn't a idiot. Everyone could and should have been able to predict that someone, somewhere in the premiership was going to get sent off for desent yesterday and with Bennett in charge it was an odds on bet it would be at Old Trafford. Personally, I thought it was going to be either Rooney or Ferdinand. I agree, United's disciplinary record isn't the best, but yesterday they kept a tight lid on it. Benitez should have done the same, but either he didn't or his players don't listen to him. It appears to me that Ferguson knows when to let his players have their head and when to reign them in. I thought alot of the Liverpool players knew Mascherano was going to get sent off, but didn't seem to care. An example was Alonso; he had his hands on Mascherano and half-heartedly tried to stop him. As for the rest of it: you have a great big lanky striker, you're down to 10 men, you're having trouble holding the ball........I'm sorry, but why was bringing on Crouch and long balling the last 20 minutes bull? One goal and you get a point. United would have done it, Chelsea would have done and Arsenal would have done.

When Mascherano got sent off (which I think was correct - he had been moaning all through the first half, although the first yellow could be considered harsh), I was expecting a Liverpool to go for it - all guns blazing, which is what United usually do when we're down to 10 men......but Liverpool looked defeated. I really couldn't believe it. As for Rafa......20 minutes to go I was thinking that he was going to bring on Crouch and lob long balls at him and see what shakes loose. Our defence isn't the tallest in the world and poor Wes Brown gets nervous when the pressure is on, especially as Van der Sar has been looking dodgy all season. But he brought on Yossi....I nearly laughed myself sick. For the first 10 minutes of the game I thought we were in for a right match, but then you gave up. The only one who did seem to be passionate was actually Mascherano. I felt it was utterly obvious that Ferguson told his players to calm down and keep their mouths shut. He knew that Bennett was itching to redeem himself after the Chelsea match and that the FA was going to expect referees to clamp down on dissent. Ferguson prepared his team properly and fully, Benitez didn't.......you lost. Such is life.
