Yeah that was really odd. Even if he was thinking it you'd think he'd be smarter and say something like "win the CL with Liverpool and if I've played great it might mean I win the Balon d'or too" His behaviour when subbed early on with Slot having to talk to him on the bench wasn't great considering his the vice captain. Personally I think he's just frustrated that he's a right back and maybe being Beckham from Right back at Madrid eases that frustration.

As vice captain he's not been able to do any interviews or take the load of Virg all season. Everything's been on Virg during a huge transition from motivating the players to getting them all to buy into new ideas etc. It must be an awkward time for them so at least this clears the air.

It’s very disappointing, sad, unusual that a local lad who’s vice captain of a brilliant team on the up and about to win the league for only the second time in 35 years wants to leave. I’d understand if Slot had a miserable first season but it all feels planned regardless of the current success and it’s basically just really frustrating as the future looks great. Fair enough he fancies something new and I’m not sure how it could have been handled any differently by the club as they’ve obviously given him time and space to make up his mind. The only positive from it is that maybe the club were waiting on Trent to make up his mind before sorting out the other two for whatever reasons. Maybe that gets done quickly and announced quickly too.

He's going to look like a right sausage on the open top bus. Probably get egged and have to sit down stairs.

That'll be someone elses job. He'll be a brilliant attacking fullback that defends well and bombs forward either inside or on the overlap and we've seen it being really effective over the last year. The creativity will need to be found somewhere else and once we know it's not coming from Trent it'll be planned for I hope. Maybe it'll be Dom in a different roll. Maybe we'll look for another Coutinho style no 10. Who knows.

Setting us up for Hughes to tell us in multiple articles the amazing job he'd have done if he had a war chest. Probably one of the best jobs in the world. I so hope he's not a complete blagger and that he's got a f&&king great plan this summer. Whichever Chiesa had the crutch.

It's just sad that the vice captain and boyhood player wants to leave at such an exciting time. He's left everything to Virg so was a pretty crap vice captain. Great footballer going forward though.

I wonder where we’d be if you only counted all goals and assists from every other they player except him. Probably somewhere close to the mancs which I’d terrifying.

Good summary of where we are I guess. We’ve left ourselves a lot to do but I think it’s been good for slot to have a year in the league with the current team to see the quality and the level of player we have. He alluded to the level of the players being higher than he expected so it’s good he didn’t arrive with players from the Dutch league in mind.
