Think we need to give him a break here and look at the bigger picture. There's been a lot of changes in how football is played this season. Long balls is now a thing and low blocks have been invented. All in the same season where we've started playing two games a week. Didn't watch the game today, but I am sure all the three factors played a crucial role here.

Well my point is that I don't think you need that/bruisers to dominate the league, citing Scholes/Carrick as the example. Then some start claiming that Scholes/Carrick had plenty of aggression, to which I countered that being a poor but snide dirty tackler does not count as aggression.

that doesn't equate to aggression in my book. I look for tenacity and willingness to engage in challenges that might not end up well for you. And a certain eagerness to get in the face of your opponent. Scholes had none of that. Leaving studs on your opponent because you're a bad tackler doesn't mean you have aggression. Just makes you a dirty cvnt.

There's a reason why Robbie savage never made it at a big club while a physical wimp like Scholes had a grand time in the league. You don't win stuff with yard dogs.

Toure, Drogba and Essien, speaking just to premier league players, were among the best in the league when they were playing. Salah is among the best in the history of the premier league. He's top five easy and probably top three without too much fuss as well.
