That Villa e Madrid trophy that we won in '87. There was a story about that on LFC TV a while back about how Athletico would win this enormous trophy every year because they always played some local team that they were guaranteed to beat but in that year, I think the story was that Kenny was looking to set up a pre-season friendly and arranged for us to play them - they somewhat reluctantly agreed and lost it much to their chagrin!

We have one of the best managers in world football - one that many other top clubs would love to have He wants to stay many years He has already given us success particularly in Europe We have shown continual progress in every area It should really be a no -brainer - give the man a new contract

But nobody has explained why, if Rafa is the best man for the job that we need to "wait and see". If Torres contract was being run down would we say well lets see if he keeps scoring bewteen now and the end of the season?

I suspect he may mean as compared with Man U or Chelsea

Aside from all the stuff about his workrate all of which I agree with I do think Dirk is a more skilful player than he is given credit for.

[People hardly agree with anything I say ever and am I arsed? Thats generally true but on this occasion you're quite wrong

Redknapp said last season that Liverpool would never win the league with Rafa as manager

No but maybe he was suggesting Rafa's initial view of the player turned out to be very wrong. It just seemed strange that he should mention this now.

Imagine though a whole game played without anyone touching the ball. It would make for the most fantastic quiz question.

I wonder if that comment by Parry was subtle dig at Rafa

you would think so but now his book's out we know he's a c***

yeah but so's Carra - when you meet him

It could happen tomorrow if both teams play on the counter - neither will want the ball

As Bird & Fortune once said - "I don't l;ike the word xenophobia. Its a Greek word and I detest Greeks"

Agreed it has been rotten for ages - at least since big money started to go in from TV. The only way to control it would be by limiting transfer fees and wages to say a percentage of a clubs turnover but then that would be killing the golden goose.

Lots of hypocrisy in this thread. Football is only rotten when we might not be able to keep our best players? Why pretend this is about football in general when its clearly about Liverpool FC?

Most football supporters have to put up with losing their best players - its only the top clubs that don't.

In an age when players earn vast sums of money and wield a great deal of power it is ridiculous to talk about them being treated badly because they become surplus to requirements

I don't think Rafa will let him back. He's going the way of the sheriff methinks (except he's obviously not going to Stoke)

no pressure then

I love it that we have a player named flora

Without wanting to revive all the old arguments I never understood why DIC took so long with all that due diligence stuff - it seemed to go on forever I mean how long can it take? Perhaps their interest was not as strong then as it later became.

Houllier's team always seemed to raise their game against the Mancs but gave the impression of being less bothered against weaker opposition. Also I think the Mancs show much more respect to us under Benitez and hence less vulnerable to the counter attack than then.
