  1. Yup. One top quality signing does not feel like a stretch for a team in our position.
  2. Yes not all players in a squad will get the playing time they want, but they've had three seasons of him (maybe more if he doesn't ultimately go).
  3. It's a bizarre argument to make. Consistently successful teams have v high quality players on the bench. Just look at City in recent years for heavens sake. Yes some players eventually want to go to get more first team football, that's part of the churn. In the meantime they ensure that you can deal with injuries, loss of form without a significant drop in performance level.
  4. I don't know our full position under ffp, you may be right that we have our hands tied there, though i still have some scepticism. In any event if the reason we are not investing in the squad is FFP, so be it and I expect that fact would emerge in due course. If not, it would likely be because FSG choose not to at this point, and would feel like a missed opportunity.
  5. I may also be mis-understanding FFP, but given we had net profits in 16/17 and 17/18, plus it appears record revenues in 18/19, I struggle to see that we don't have any room for manouvre under FFP.
  6. You mean we can't break the FFP thresholds? With player sales etc we could get the 40m revenue figure I think you referred to previously. Some additional monies from owners need not take us outside ffp levels, but still get us to a position we could boost the front 3 with someone of real quality.
  7. From FSG. Is it your view the Group doesn't have funds available which could be invested in the club if they chose to?
  8. So FSG's approach is we 'live within our means'. No player investment that we can't 'afford' within the financial model they have defined? Ok,understanable from a commercial view, but this is a choice they make, not a necessity. They could invest to reinforce our position as regular challengers at the top. They don't and it minimises their financial risk, but ups the risk we lose ground on the pitch. If we don't speculate this year, we never will. In the current footballing world that makes success possible (qed) but difficult, especially in the league. The reality is other clubs are not under the same self-imposed restrictions.
  9. Is this a fact?
  10. Be surprised if we go into new season with front three plus origi, brewster. Really think we need another proven top-class attacker (be that a forward or attacking midfielder). Otherwise we look light up top if injuries hit.
  11. I'm on board with this.. The not being arsed
  12. That tackle on Son in the first half, when it looked like he'd got away from him...He's some piece of work.
  13. I've warmed to Shearer over time. He hit the right note last night.
  14. Already looking like there could be more of a threat down the left from Mane-Keita-Robertson link-up. Nice to have that balance with the Salah-Trent show on the right.
  15. Indeed, loving our more decisive transfer activity. A few years ago we’d have been in Chelsea’s position. And wouldn’t have chucked big money at a plan b either.
  16. Keepers tend to peak later in career though. Spending that money on one who is still probably some way off his best is a gamble, and would suggest they hadn’t really planned ahead for departure of Courtois.
  17. £71m for a 23 year old keeper...Market’s gone nuts.
  18. It's not rival fans, more players, clubs, coaches I'm thinking about. In footballing terms, transfers and profile we're now operating at the top of the game, albeit yes trophies need to follow.
  19. What a change in the standing and perception of the club (to non-Liverpool folk) there must be in the last year or so. World record fees for keeper and defender, Champions league final playing great football. Until quite recently we weren't seriously in for the biggest players, and we were probably quite far down their list. Now feeling like we're properly back amongst the top of the European game. It's bloody great.
  20. Jesus. Sometimes I feel I waste my life on trivial sh*t. Then I see things like this and feel a whole lot better.
  21. Mebbe, though Lallana strikes me as the most 7-like in our squad. Coutinho was the ultimate 7 of recent years of course. Should never have been in 10.
  22. Lallana would be a decent 7 if he can get back to fitness and form.
  23. Wow, this is some weird sh*t.
  24. Buy players who aren't in the world cup on the cheap while everyone else is distracted. Sorted.
