We've done well with the points tally this season in the Premiership - but I'm wondering - if we could have a season where we didn't really give much of a monkeys about the Cups on offer - would we, with fresher players, be able to get to the thing that we all want.

The League Cup is nice, the FA Cup is not bad. The 'Champions' League is quite good - but none of them even come slightly close to winning the league.

I think this term the stress of starting early and the FA Cup run didnt' do us any favours - never mind the trip to Japan..

Don't agree mate. The European Cup is fantastic. Don't think Japan really effected us. It was a poor start to the season that killed us off. After 8 games we were 14 point behind the Chavs, we ended it 9 behind. We'd have won the league had it started in mid-October. Maureen must be sweating on next season... if he sticks around.

Obviously winning the quadrouple would be nice.

But I'd be happy with just the league.

That's all I want us to win next.

Fully agree with all that. My point is that it would be dangerous to put all our eggs in one basket. I'll take as many cups as possible between now and us winning the league. :)

I don't know why - but I'm strangely not bothered by the FA Cup this year.

Seems strange - but there you go.

strange? f***ing strange?

its the FA Cup man.....the most prestigious cup compeition on the world......When we won it in 65 it was the be all and end of everything

If we used less than 15 players over the season as was the case years ago, then I'd be OK to put everything into the league. But since it is very much a squad game, and since Rafa is well on the way to building a very impressive squad, I'm very happy to fight on 4 fronts.

Priorities will always be:

League

Europe

FA cup

League Cup

Follwed by any other trinkets that may come our way (Super Cup, World Club, Charity Shield).

It's also might be worth arguing that success breeds success, so I feel that doing well in the cups is more than fine. Sometimes if you have a bad loss in the cup it can knock the momentum and take a couple of league games to get it out of the system. With Chelsea having raised the bar in the last 2 years, you can't really afford that kind of thing if you have tutle aspirations.

I would much prefer to win the CL than the premier league. For your team to be playing in the final, a game that would be watched by millions across europe and the world is magic. It's far far better for the world wide reputation of the club than the league could be also.

Totally, completely disagree. EC is nice, but the league is everything. I couldn't give a monkey's chuff for the effect on worldwide reputation.

you wouldn't? but world wide reputation is what governs your cash income more than anything... your shirt sponsership is governed by your global appeal, also shirts sales and other things like that... all amount to money and if you dont have it then you cant compete...

CL is bigger

f*** income... that's the spirit!! but plain old spirit on its own won't win you a thing..

you might be saved from relegation by a great attitude but it takes money to win things. It takes money to attract the best players. We aren't looking to move to a new stadium simply cause it'll be nice and new... it's because we are under pressure to compete with the other top clubs financially and its pretty damn vital.

You've got things the wrong way round, kid. You want to win the CL as it earns more money with fans in Bangkok and Cape Town so we can 'compete'. Compete to do what?

Is absolutely 100% spot on.

is the right answer

I remember having a similar argument in a boozer after the cup final in 2001 and these c***s were teling me they would sacrifice winning the UEFA cup over beating charlton and qualifying for the CL

FFS...thats right, thats what I follow my team for to see us qualify for the qualifying rounds of a competition rather than win a cup

f*** off

I think the match-going supporters just want to see us win things. Big, shiny f*** off things glinting in the sun or under floodlights. Well I certainly do anyway and it is those glory days and nights that we live for. Of course we'd all like the league but I'll tell you what, a European cup final and an FA cup final in two seasons keeps me coming back for more and f*** the "increased worldwide reputation". I care only for what I am seeing and what I am seeing I am more than happy with, thank you very much.
