Can't see him going with England, there must be an English goalkeeper with experience knocking around ?

It does look like we'll need a new 2nd goalkeeper in the summer.

Richard Wright  had to be said

It would be great for Carson if he did get the call. It looks like it all depends on whether Sven takes 2 or 3 goalies.

As for his Liverpool future, he's in a tight spot. Reina is very young and is the clear no.1 goalie, so Carson may well have to move on to have a career with first team action.

When we signed Carson I thought the goalkeeping position would be sorted out with us perhaps signing someone like Van der Sar (who was not yet at Man Utd) for a couple of years while Carson was groomed to take over.

With the signing of Pepe Reina, Carson's prospects look very limited. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that Reina is our goalie and he looks to be superb. But Carson will probably have to move on to build his career, or else he will stunt his progress with the lack of competitive matches.

Ive got a mate who's a Wednesday fan and he's been very impressed with him. Great shot stopper and organising their defence. Could do to improve a bit when coming off his line though, but plenty of time on his hands.

Anyway apparently Clemence has been to watch him a couple of times and apparently Robert Green is out injured so he was thinking that he may be in with an outside chance of making the 3rd choice keepers spot for England in the summer. Be a bit of a turn around for the lad.

Carsons also said that hes got the taste for first team action now and would like to go out on loan next season. Presumably Dudek & Kirkland won't be here next season so surely that would been us signing another experienced keeper as backup wouldn't it?

No big surprise here but Chris said on the coverage of the WB game last night that his agent had spoken to us and had told him to find a new club in the summer. Not sure if it has been said before but this came straight from the horse's mouth.

Sven will definitely take 3 keepers, he'd be foolhardy not to and he's hardly got a reputation for risktaking.

With Kirkland and Dudek hopefully moved on in the summer I hoped Carson would settle into the number two role. If he understandably prefers to play and we just need cover how about WEsterveld?

I can see the sense in that. I just thought there must be someone useful like a Paul Jones type character who's never really had England recognition but is dependable....there really isn't anyone is there.

I'll tell you the reason why Paul Jones never had any England recognition.......he played for Wales.

know your goalkeepers and their nationality sonny.

Green has been in the squad all season, he's playing Championship football, so I cannot see no reason why Carson shouldn't be selected, after all he is the U21 keeper.

Walker (where is he?)

#2 at Bolton isn't he? I think I saw him warming up at H/T at Anfield last week

Westerveld was truely awful for Portsmouth at the start of the season. Disappeared from view and then played a couple of games for Everton....

Just been emailed this.

ENGLAND Under-20 keeper and World Cup hopeful Scott Carson is being hailed as a key man in the Owls' escape from relegation.

His seven-week loan stay with Wednesday co-incided with a haul of 18 points and five clean sheets in nine games.

It culminated in the win at Derby which saw the team climb two places to end in 19th position.

When the Liverpool keeper arrived in early March, Wednesday had suffered four consecutive defeats and were still to make survival certain.

Assistant manager Kevin Summerfield - in charge while Paul Sturrock is away on a scouting mission - praised all the players for their efforts in the push for safety, including loan signings.

But he added: "Scott has possibly been the key one, ahead of everybody. He has given us an awful lot of confidence.

"I don't think he's had that many saves to make, take away Wolves where he single-handedly kept us in the game. The confidence he has given everybody who plays in front of him has been great."

Summerfield said that the fervour of the fans - seen again at Derby where 5,100 roared the team to a 2-0 victory - had been an asset.

"Our supporters have also been a big factor in us staying up.," he said. "They have been really patient; they have been knowledgeable about what's been going on at the club. They have been nothing but positive."

We are also in talks with you about a season long loan for him next year!

Looks like we might need some quality back up then.

Pollitt the Wigan keeper has had a very good season.

Don't confuse a busy keeper with a good keeper. He always looks pretty dodgy to me and while he has to make a lot of saves his positioning ,command of area and handling have to be questioned.

Interesting to see what Rafa does with the keepers next season. We've got Reina, Dudek, then Carson (21), Martin (20 this year), Wilis (20), Roberts (19 this year) and Mimms (17).

Do you even need 3 keepers? Ok you might have to take them in case but there's a 1% chance you will need to use all 3.

I think you have to make the 23rd man a goal keeper so yes.

Pollitt's not a bad keeper but he's about 83 and he's not international quality. Most keepers are good shot-stoppers, it's their decision making, organisation and command of the box that makes great ones. Pollitt is a decent mid-table option but not for Ingerlund.

I thought Pollit was Aussie as well?

all teams must take 3 GK as part of their squads to the world cup, its not an option

What's that supposed to mean? Players aren't "assigned" to positions in Association Football!

Thats why I said 'Paul Jones type character'

I didn't say Paul Jones for England. Though to be fair, I can see how my post was ambiguous.

Read your forum properly sonny ;)
