Dominus Maximus Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I've been a bit insulted over the media coverage in the past years. It seemed as only United and Arsenal were real contenders. Chelsea came along and a group referred to as the big three emerged. As any other football fan, even though the media is secondary, the lust for recognition is not to be ignored. Why weren?t we included? After winning the CL, I still felt than some parts of the media saw the victory as luck, and still didn't include "us" as a member of the media darling enterprise. But now after clinching third, and advancing from the group stages in the CL, and reaching the semis in the FA-Cup. Not to mention that no one can ignore the fact of Liverpool being the most winning club in English history bar none We have in my opinion confirmed that we are good enough to count ourselves as member of the English elite. But why do the press not agree with my assumption? I just don't get it. YNWA
Falconhoof Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 We need to win the title, and thats irrespective of what anyone outside the club has to say. I sometimes wonder if the football journalists are all of a generation to only understand football Post Sky and 1992 and the Champions league. maybe they don't generally have a depth of knowledge to understand that the likes of newcastle and Chelsea don't have histories as distinguished as Nottingham Forest or even Everton. The press can't see further than their noses - f*** them.
cochyn Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 It's our complete lack of media slags in the side. We need at least two more 'stars' to advertise gadgets and bad french cars on telly. We're plently good enough, we just need another title.
Benitez Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 not really arsed to be honest, a lot of it is very silly, this 'big 3' or 'big 4' nonsense. I'm happy with how we're progressing this season, with how we've improved in the league. And it's up to us alone, to continue to improve, and to continue to get to semi finals and finals and to win things, thats the only thing that really matters and puts teams in the elite band.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I don't give a s***. We have a heritage that no-one can match

Guest Marshy Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I prefer to be in the BIG 5 anyway - that's European Cup owners and special UEFA badge wearers club. In English football we have no peers.
smithdown Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Real Madrid - 9 timesAC Milan - 6 timesLiverpool - 5 times Yeah, we're in the Big 3, don't worry.
Dule Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 If we can do the double over Chelsea and United next year, and back up our season tally from this year, then we will seriously have a chance of winning the title. But when you look back at the last two seasons, it is something we have not done. Neither Chelsea or United have been beaten by us in the league, and we will not progress any further next year unless we beat them atleast at home.

Guest AnfieldGrass Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 League x 18 (English record)Europe x 5 (British record)F.A. Cup x 6 Eufa Cup x 3 (British record)Lge Cup x 7 (English record) We're in the big 5 alright. Wouldn't worry what the press say they get paid for talking, our actions speak for themselves.
floyd Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 (edited) Europe since 2000, we have been the only British club to win a European trophy. In fact if you look at our record since 2000, it's more than Arsenal and Chelsea have amassed in their entire history. European Cup: 2005.UEFA Cup: 2001. European Super Cup: 2001, 2005. Arsenal's entire history European Fairs Cup Winners 1970 European Cup Winners Cup Winners 1994 Chelsea's entire History Cup Winners Cup in 1971 & 1998European Super Cup: 1998 The only true recognition we get, is outside of the country, and this Southern/Manc based media Edited April 18, 2006 by floyd
mm2259 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Ye know, i had it said to me this weekend: "Sure, how many Premierships have liverpool won?" It was the last thing he will ever say as i ripped out his tongue and fed it to a pack of ravenous jack russels. Just say 18 times and tell them to look up the word "premier" in a dictionary....Usually works for me...
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have each won the league in recent years until we do likewise, there's no point bleating about the press perception of us

RP Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Moyes was interviewed after Chelsea walked all over them yesterday: Interviewer : Can you see anyone challnging Chelsea domestically over the next few years? Bug-eyed c**t : Yes, Manchester United and Arsenal can challenge them. Proof if we ever needed it that we have no chance.
Guest spk Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Only chelsea, a*** and manu are considered genuine premiership title contenders. we haven't been up there challenging for it for years. until we are for a couple of seasons we won't be part of the 'big three' (though with arsenal losing thiery this year there might be a back door). we've made progress but we aren't title challengers. until this year when they've gone off the boil domestically arsenal have been for several years. manu since the 90's and nobody can argue that with their new wealth chelsea are not! i'm afraid for now, we're the best of the runners up in most peoples eyes. rafa still has a lot of work to do

stressederic Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I'd like to hear Charlie Nicholas's opinion on the matter.

jfogarty Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 In order to sell their allocation on Saturday Chelsea are letting their season ticket holders and members purchase 3 tickets each for the game. Big club my a***
lawrie Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Well suited that we're not really rated too be honest. We can steal up and nab the Prem Title next season just like we did the Champions League Title last season before anyone notices
