Ombudsam Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 (edited) He says it's preferable if the guy is British but that doesn't make any sense. Surely you either just appoint an english bloke or you completely broden your search. According to the Premier League Chairman British and English are the same. I may be misrepresenting him as he's talking about the passionate view of the game but still that doesn't make any sense. If you want to appoint O'neil because you rate him just do it without the bullschit. Personally I'd prefer Scolari or Hiddink. If we are going English then Curbishley has always struck me as the natural successor EDIT: Richards' Edited February 10, 2006 by sammya
Knox_Harrington Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I'd give it to Hiddink on the proviso he keeps his job with PSV or Curbishley.
Stevie H Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 i'd give it to scolari or hiddink if i were them. tons of top level experience. allardyce, curbishley, bruce, mclaren etc are all way too inexperienced. or in the case of bruce and mclaren, just completely clueless.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I'd give it to Hiddink on the proviso he keeps his job with PSV why?
Gilps Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Ah, but in the Little Englander mind but blokes from the other Home Nations don't count as being properly foreign Sammya. This is why Livepool could field a side in the mid 80s without a single Englishman in it without any major problems, as most of them were Celts. But it's the end of football as we know it if Liverpool or Arsenal or anyone else puts out a side with two English blokes but a load of dodgy Frenchmen or Spaniards in it.
Mono Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I wouldn't give it to Curbishley. He's got weird eyelids
sean Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Give it to Wor Jack, at least he has form in turning good players into yard dog footballers. Sven's done half the job forhim.
intense enigma Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 i'd give it to scolari or hiddink if i were them. tons of top level experience. allardyce, curbishley, bruce, mclaren etc are all way too inexperienced. or in the case of bruce and mclaren, just completely clueless. Scolari would be a good one. To think that he made world champions out of a Brazilian team that was reportedly on the slide when he took over....... With the players England have at their disposal, the guy might win the Euro 2008
Knox_Harrington Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 why?So he's got something else to do so the nation's focus isn't continually on one man meandering around. The distraction is exactly what the job needs. England managers spend too much time reading the papers. If Hiddink kept his proper job he wouldn't do that. i'd give it to scolari or hiddink if i were them. tons of top level experience. curbishley are all way too inexperienced. He'll never become experienced though. That's why I'd give him a crack. There's no shift onto top level experience possible and I think that if an English manager is chosen then he's got the best CV to make that step up.
John am Rhein Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 Scolari and Hiddink are easily the best candidates proposed. Saying they want a "British" manager is just ridiculous. Worst of both worlds really - rules out the best candidates but fails to address the (idiotic) theory that the manager should be from the same country he's managing. Saying they want someone with Premier League experience - and, therefore, experience of managing English players - would make some sense, but specifying the nationality of the candidates in advance is just stupid, and possibly illegal (?) Give it to Wor Jack, at least he has form in turning good players into yard dog footballers. Sven's done half the job forhim. Yeah, right. And totally out-achieved all his no-mark predecessors, successors and alcoholic radio polemicists put together.
Ombudsam Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 Is MON even british actually come to think of it?
Ombudsam Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 He's from Northern Ireland, so yep. I thought the name of the country was Britain and The United Kingdom or something like that
Andythered Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Good piss-take of the precious little englander attitude in the Anorak this week: Local Hero Next Anorak Says story 9 Feb 2006 SAM Allardyce for England! Yeah, if you want the team to be twinned with Royston Vasey, home to the League of Gentlemen. Sam and Sven - the dream team Allardyce looks uncannily, and unfortunately, like a cross between the comedy show?s Herr Lipp and Tubbs Tattsyrup. After Swedish Sven, Big Sam truly is the local candidate. Oh, come, come, stop clacking your tongue and shaking your head. Bolton Wanderers manager Sam knows the game. If he wants to be the next England manager, he?d best toughen up. During his tenure as the England manager, Graham Taylor had his head plastered all over a turnip on the Sun?s front page but he never banned the Sun?s hacks from talking to him or attending press conferences. What of Big ?Girls Blouse? Sam? When BBC Five Live?s egotistical commentator Alan Green commented that Bolton play ?ugly football? that he wouldn?t pay to watch, Sam refused to talk to the station or the broadcaster. ?I thought Alan Green was a Liverpool fan, but the comments he made don?t deserve me talking about them,? said Big Sam. ?I wouldn?t want to try to encourage the BBC to keep him employed really. If I make comments, it just fuels the situation and keeps the bubble growing.? So Sam won?t comment. He?s bigger than that. And he won?t even talk to Five Live, let alone the journalists, as Green surely is, who committed the sin of voicing an opinion. What happens when Allardyce?s England start playing like Allardyce?s Bolton and lump the ball up to the big lads up front? Will we able to criticise? So as not to offend sensitive Sam, will we have to join the chorus of Sky TV?s nodding heads who give blanket praise for anything and everything, issuing aural numbutal to the masses? And if we do, will Sam refuse to talk to anyone who doesn?t see things his way and ?get behind the lads?? Or will England?s supporters ? like today?s Bolton fans ? not care at all for the style, so long as we win? And so long as Sam is local?
Cobs Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 If Fat Sam gets the England job then everyone involved in selecting him should be sacked and then beheaded.
Ombudsam Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 If Fat Sam gets the England job then everyone involved in selecting him should be sackedand then beheaded. is right. I can't believe he might get it. Makes me ill.
