and still think it's an excellent film.

I know a lot of people dislike it, and I kinda understand the idea that a number of hollywood heavyweights in a film that's supposed to be an intelligent thriller can seem very backslapping but it remains a very very good watch

Spacey is excellent, Crowe can actually act but Guy Pierce belies his Aussie Soap roots to prove that their is definately credible acting jobs for those that come from such inauspicious beginnings

I agree with Senrab,it's a great film which I've seen numerous times.

Certain parts still manage to shock me,even though I know they're coming.

Russell Crowe is a hugely underrated actor,in my opinion, there's not been a film of his that I've seen where he's been poor. He's played a wide variety of roles too.Vastly superior actor to many other Hollywood "stars".

One of my favourite films of recent times. How it lost all the Oscars to titanic god only knows

The Rolo Tomassi scene with James Cromwell and Kevin Spacey is my favourite

That's the part I was referring to,but tried not to give the game away for those who haven't seen it.

Superb scene.

I don't know anyone who slags it and the fact is that at the time Spacey may not have been and Cromwell, Pierce and Crowe certainly weren't, Hollywood heavyweights.

The best mainstream American film of the last ten years. The Rollo Tomassi sequence is the best Maguffin I can think of.

EDIT: McGuffin? Maguffin? MacGuffin? Any takers?

Is absolutely right. James Cromwell should not be overlooked either. At the time it was made though Vic, only Danny De Vito was a real Hollywood heavyweight - Spacey was on the rise, Basinger on the decline but no-one much knew who Cromwell, Crowe and Pierce were - this was the film that essentially made them. True Noir in the best possible sense.
