DJS Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Supposing Spurs finish 6th next season but win the Europa League - does that mean there'd be 5 English clubs in the Champions League for the season after, or would the side finishing 4th in the league be dropped down into the Europa? Always thought Uefa had issues with letting 5 English clubs in the Champions League & I've yet to see clarification on this. Anyone know?
Falconhoof Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I don't know the answer but Spurs aren't winning it.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I doubt it purely for the following situation. If a team from a country that only gets one spot wins the EL and finishes 2nd in the league it would then mean they qualify ahead of the champions which would be a mockery
SkippyjonJones Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I thought that the winner gets in with no cost to their countries number of places - unless they already have 4. only then does 4th place drop out.
Cunny Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I thought that the winner gets in with no cost to their countries number of places - unless they already have 4. only then does 4th place drop out. that's fair enough I reckonShould add extra interest to EL next season
JGL Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Fairly sure England would get 5 CL spots in that instance.
forde Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 The major leagues will be allowed up to five participants in the Champions League http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/europa-league-winners-to-qualify-for-champions-league-from-2015--and-it-wont-affect-the-top-four-8629668.html

It gives a definitive answer, which is what I was looking for.
Cunny Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 would the UEFA cup winners be allowed to be drawn in the same CL group as another club from their domestic league.e.g. like us and Chelsea in 2005/6
dorgie Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Do 3rd place teams from the CL group stages still go into the Europa ?
Hassony Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Do 3rd place teams from the CL group stages still go into the Europa ? think so we should do that, then win the Europa cup and get back in the CL that way
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 think so we should do that, then win the Europa cup and get back in the CL that way If we are to qualify next season by winning a trophy, I can think of a better one
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 If we are to qualify next season by winning a trophy, I can think of a better one ;)/> I can think of a better two.
