Just rereading his autobiography and he mentioned that when he was getting a hard time from GH and Thommo he asked his agent to contact Man U and Arsenal about a move, and they said they were'nt up for it. What would you think of him if he went to the Mancs ? would this have been worse than Torres going ?

Would you want him to though? One of the last great characters.

I'd much rather he looked after himself better, listened more and came through his injuries more in tact and scored the goals that delivered us more success. I'm not one for the flawed genius angle, in most cases I think it's about people that were never required to grow up or take responsibility because they were so clearly talented and valuable that those around them indulged them. I like the drama and the uncertain, volatile and all that, but I prefer it to be on someone else's time, a la Gazza.

Love him, but he did use the "i'm just a harmless scally" line a bit too much in the book.

Still my favourite player of that time, though.

I wish I had never read that book, it changed my opinion of him. He really didnt get it, when he is giving off about houllier not understanding it wasn't his fault he was in another fight in another nightclub at 4 in the morning. He should have been on the world stage, lifting cups for both us and England , acclaimed everywhere.

So sad really, in hindsight houllier got a great price for him, although at the time I thought he was mental

I heard the Man U thing at the time. The forum wars it caused then just for suggesting such heresy.

Would it have been worse than the Torres move ? It would have hurt more, yeah.

Yep.

I like Robbie more now that it's all in the past. The stakes were too high back then. He also seems to love the club more with age.
