Corners?!

I was amazed yesterday - it almost seemed like we knew what we were doing at corners. Some cracking ones yesterday. Hope we keep them up.

Main difference is the delivery. Gerrard is actually getting some height on them before they dip. Means they get past the first defender and into the danger area.

 

Noticed it on his freekick, too.

 

Maybe he's been working on them.

I think his set pieces, esp free kicks have been outstanding for a while now. Certainly since around fiorentina home. He's def been working on them.

his delivery hasnt been that bad. the problem lies with the fact that we dont have enough huge players to aim for. having the greek there gives the opposition defences something to worry about, and Agger back will add to that, and also gives Gerrard something to aim at

His delivery has been terrible. More recently it's been excellent.

 

I'd still rather have him in the box and use his aerial ability. Carra's f***ing useless at corners. Seems to have an uncanny knack for being miles away from where the ball arrives. On the odd occasion he's there, he's s*** at attacking headers.

25 times that shower launched a ball into our box (so i'm told - corners & otherwise), and only once was a player in blue first to the ball.

have you noticed we have gone back to putting a man on the near post? Masch took up that position at the weekend. the way we set up to defend them has also changed in recent games too, with the positioning of our big players not being as static as it was before, they seem to interchange a bit more depending which "zone" the percieved threat is likely to attack

I think the fact he's getting sharper and fitter with each game is also helping him in that regard.

Did Howard actually go to throttle Neville? Thought it was great how they managed to manoeuvre Kuyt into position for it, he seemed to turn round to say "gerroff" when it bounced off his head.

I watched it again last night and it appeared that the goal should be given to Howard. He grabbed hold of Kuyt and threw him at the ball!
