Atrocious. Absolutely atrocious.

Are they worked on AT ALL in training. Why don't we have anyone who can put a decent cross in consistently from a corner? Only serves to add to the frustration. What on earth can be done?

Advice from the coaching staff: "Just lob it in and see what happens"

"Make sure you don't kick the corner past the first defender......"

I agree with this, but believe it or not we were actually the second top scorers in the league last season from set pieces. Think we're about the same again this year.

Find it hard to believe that, especially this season. Other teams seem to cause some sort of danger from them, at least may have a header on target, go over or wide. With us, the opposing team just simply head it clear and often get counters.

Defending them is also an huge issue, obviously. Insua had the back post zone, Rasiak went back there to join him. I dont care if thats Insua's f***ing zone, thats a mis-match. At least man mark their biggest threats then zonal mark the rest if you're gonna do it. But Insua vs. Rasiak - that defies any common sense whatsoever.

Defending set pieces has been a problem for us for a while now.

Even when we had the best defensive record in the league we were conceding more set piece goals than alot of other teams.

Is it the system or are we just not implementing zonal marking correctly.

No

Actually looking at it again we've a poorer record than last season, we've only 6 this season which is less than the teams listed below have for this season

Goals from set pieces last season:

Us: 13

United: 11

Arsenal:16

Chelsea: 12

Villa:11

City: 8

Insua on Rasiak should never be a possibility, so its the system in that respect.

Considering we going into each game in a defensive mindset, the way we defend as a team is pathetic, it's bordering on comical and I expect to conceed in nearly every attack these days.

The number of times Reading opened us up at the back was frightening. If the yhad been able to finish, we would have been done by half time.

If this defensive malaise is not sorted out, we will be on the end of a good hiding one of these days.

Watching tonight, Degen was the pick of our defence.

We lookedl ike we were playing on an ice rink at times as the palyers looked uncertain on their feet and incapable of ball control.

Even though I said I'm not arsed, it still hurts and not looking forward to the papers, tv or Stoke on Saturday, they've been battling hard lately, and that's something (battle) we dont have in our locker anymore.

Seriously, we put 3 players close to their keeper. How on earth will you score? Even when the cross is good?

Zonal attacking is what we need.

There was a Gerrard cross in the first half that was knee high on the six yard line
