Just saw this on the Beeb....

"Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has had offers of £10, Oasis tickets and a Curly Wurly after inviting offers for the Tyneside outfit by e-mail. The Magpies have been given a £100m price tag. "

Personally I think the Curly Wurly is a very good offer :)

Alan Shearer wanted as Newcastle United manager by potential club buyer

The Profitable Group, a Singapore-based investment company, has emerged as the front-runner in the race to buy Newcastle United and made it known they want to appoint Alan Shearer as manager.

The Profitable Group, which includes former Liverpool and England midfield battler Steve McMahon as commercial director, is the first interested party to declare its interest in buying the crisis-hit Tyneside club and have already opened talks with owner Mike Ashley.

"Yes we are interested in buying Newcastle United - and we're putting together a plan," a Profitable Group insider said today.

"We have spoken with Mike Ashley and (Newcastle managing director) Derek Llambias and we are hoping that we can reveal a lot more in the next few days.

"We have people within the company who have strong Geordie roots that stretch more than 40 years and there are people here who have a love for the club - we think that is vital for Newcastle at the moment.

"The plan we have in mind is to get the club on a sound financial footing first and foremost. Then we aim to turn the club into a trust.

"It will be very similar to the Barcelona model where fans have a major say on what happens at the club.

"There is also scope to look at increasing the capacity to 60,000 which is being explored." Former Newcastle and England skipper Shearer has been earmarked as their manager despite being unable to stave off relegation in the latter stages of last season.

"Without any question we see Alan Shearer as the man to manage the team," the source added.

"Yes, we have Steve McMahon on board but he is not looking into management. He is though a football man and understands the game inside out.

"We will look to give Alan money to spend and funds to build his squad - but we have to say now that we are not interested in highly paid players at this moment in time - we won't be a Chelsea.

"What this club needs now is somebody who understands the area, understands the people and how this club works. Steve McMahon can offer expertise in the background. But Alan is the man we want.

"We are not in the business of misleading people. We have put a plan together and it's one we think that the fans will be behind. Newcastle is a fabulous club and we are hoping that we can reveal more in the next few days."

According to its website, the Profitable Group "exists to increase the wealth of its clients, its employees and its owners, through the provision of strategically selected investment opportunities" and its aim is "to be internationally recognised as a premier provider of strategic global investment and a responsible and ethical builder of wealth".

Will this fella ever be taken seriously again once he exits Newcastle ?

He's lost a load of weight.

It used to say Newcastle United Football Club, but most of it is lost in the rolls of skin.

MAGPIES FOOLED BY `BANTER`

The north-east businessman claiming to be preparing a 150million takeover of Newcastle has emerged as a Sunderland fan having some "banter".

A press release issued on behalf of a 'Rick Parkinson' on Friday morning announced he had put together a five-man consortium ready to offer Mike Ashley 90million for the club.

It also claimed Parkinson would put 30million into restructuring the business and install Alan Shearer as manager with a 30million war-chest.

However, it was revealed later on Friday that the club were aware of the consortium and it has now emerged that 'Parkinson' is in fact Richard Parker, a lifelong Sunderland fan.

He told the Daily Mail: "It's all friendly banter. I'm sure the majority of Magpie fans will see the funny side but I'm afraid it is something they're going to have to put up with for a while.

"We haven't had a great deal to shout about in the last 16 years or so at Sunderland, but this summer has, without doubt, made up for all those years of hurt. Newcastle's plight, as difficult as it is for their fans, is music to our ears.

"We could easily have gone down on the final day as well, but that makes it all the funnier for Sunderland fans and nobody can really blame us for milking it for as long as we possibly can."

Either the fat bloke (NUFC Tattoo) has swallowed an enormous cherry whole or has something more serious growing in that large gut of his.
