Is such a f***ing coward

Shearer 'rejects Newcastle role'

Shearer spent a decade at Newcastle and finally retired in 2006

Alan Shearer has turned down an invite to be on the Newcastle United coaching staff, says manager Joe Kinnear.

A week ago the 61-year-old boss said the door was "always open" for the former skipper to make a return.

"[shearer] said it was a very kind offer but wasn't ready for it yet, and I said,'That's fine'," Kinnear said.

Having just signed a contract extension himself, Kinnear added: "There's a possibility I might bring someone else in on the coaching front now."

Former Magpies legend Shearer has been continually linked with a return to the club and admitted in September he would like to be manager.

Kinnear said last week that he was unconcerned with speculation linking Shearer the the manager's job.

"I said he would be welcome to come in any time to give the place a lift and work with our strikers," he added about Shearer, who scored 206 goals in 404 appearances.

"It was very honourable of Alan. Speculation linking him with the job is never going to go away and we're both aware of that.

"I told him he's more than welcome here and there's not a problem, there's no aggravation between us."

Kinnear arrived at St James' Park as interim boss in September following Kevin Keegan's exit.

He will now stay for another six months as owner Mike Ashley continues to try to sell the club.

He's more than happy to sit on the sidelines and let his mates in the media do his stupid little whispering campaign about how much he would love the Newcastle job, but when Keegan first and then Kinnear offer him a coaching job he backs out. He'll keep on undermining the managers there until such time as he sees fit and proper to return like some all conquering f***ing hero, rather than the gutless g******* he really is.

for shearer read andy gray. and probably hansen for that matter. happy to take the coin for sounding like an expert without ever having to prove it. good and great players but ultimately gobsh*tes.

I don't think Hansen ever let all his mates constantly link him to the Liverpool job whilst smirking and keeping his mouth shut every time someone asks him about the rumours.

Havent really ever been able to warm to him, but have to say, I dont blame him one bit for avoiding that job. Neither do I blame Gray, Hansen et al for taking the easy route - it's what I'd do if I was them.

And you know Shearer does how?

Shearer has claimed on more than one occasion that he'd like to manage Newcastle one day.

Hansen, on the other hand, has said from day one that he is not interested in managing.

Which bit? I know he does the 'mouth shut and smirking bit' because I've watched him when he's asked the question.

As for the first bit, as Swagger said, Shearer has said on several occassions he wants to take the Newcastle management job, there have been miles of reports in the presses at various times saying how this is the moment for him. Hell Rob Lee was only saying so last week.

Why should Shearer take the offer up. It'd be both bad for him and the current manager. He's wise not to associate himself at all with the Ashley/Kinnear regime.

Saying that any new prospective Newcastle owners would be stupid to appoint a totally unproven manager, however popular it would be.

You just know it's gonna happen, don't you?

Thing is, the shadow of Shearer is going to hang huge over whoever is in that job, and no matter who that person is, the minute a couple of results go against them, the fans are going to be calling Shearer's name. Its one of those things you have to get over and done with, else its never going to go away.
