Nice draw.

Be interesting this year as I think we'll see a "Carling Cup" team in the same way Arsenal have done in the last few years. Hopefully see a bit of the likes of Nemeth, N'Gog, Insua, Spearing and El Zhar

Is it 7 subs or is that just the Premier League?

that's a fantastic draw, especially in terms of giving the young lads a run out

too often in these sorts of games we've played an overly strong side, laboured and played down to the opposition level, and it must affect confidence, particularly if we get turned over

the younguns have shown that they have a very high level in pre-season and many of them deserve a run-out in this game, either starting or off the bench

Pacheco might not be one of them though as physically and experience-wise he is still behind N'Gog and Nemeth. I'd like to see these two given a start together. Chances are Rafa is only going to play half a side of youngsters at best though so I don't see Nemeth getting a start in this ahead of N'Gog. Rumours were Krisztian was supposed to go on loan but didn't want to and thought he'd get some starts for us. I think he's made a mistake there if he had the chance to go to play under Gary Mac but refused.

Much depends on what Rafa is going to do with Finnan, Pennant and Voronin once the transfer window has closed. Will he consider that while they're still at the club he may as well still use them, or have they been told that they're not part of the first team squad any more, end of story, so they'd better do one in January ? I can't second guess Rafa on that one.

Assuming he's going to go with youngsters and this trio have played their last games for us, a midfield for Crewe is likely to involve Lucas I would have thought, with Plessis. I'd love to see Jay get a game but chances are he won't if Lucas is fit and needing games. Nabil looks like he may be near another start. On the left, I'd guess that if Riera signs then he'll be eased in gradually and this seems as likely a game for him as any.

At the back, left back is difficult to call. I feel Insua must be given a game again soon before he loses confidence. He is outstanding on the ball, looks better going forward than defensively to me, so could even get a game at left mid in this. 2 of the 4 experienced centre backs, Hyypia and ANOther. Degen will probably start if he's fit otherwise I can see Darby playing. A start for Cavalieri in goal. He may well get all the domestic cup games I imagine. He looks more than a decent keeper to me.

I would have thought that side could turn Crewe over. I don't want to face the ignominy of another Barnsley performance by the seniors.

Date for the game yet?

I've spoken to a couple of girls so far and left a couple more some voicemails but none of them have accepted yet.

I'll keep you posted though.
