I didn't actually mean this to be about a certain old left back, it's just when I think of last season it is the one thing that jumps out at me.

 

The last few weeks I haven't really been up for this one (trying to avoid the *** sport commentary about those ****ers from down the East Lancs Road that we will hear all ****ing season), but now it has really started to grip me.

If you had told me a month back if signing Keane would have excited me so much I would have laughed at you, but that and the good news (via ES) from Melwood has really got me going now.....

Fair enough not having out and out wingers if you're going to play attacking full backs, but i'm not convinced we have the full backs with the attacking quality to make up for having no wingers.

I've seen Dossena play a few times, but Degen never.

 

I'm not slating them, just on the evidence of what i've seen, Dossena is a solid full back, but nothing spectacular attackingwise and Degen, we'll be lucky to get 5 games a season out of.

If I'm being brutally honest, I'd like to see at least Voronin and Pennant moved on and replaced by an attacking player who is physically and mentally stronger. I also hope we can sort the Barry-Alonso switch. I dont expect us to win it, but at least be in position if Chelsea and/or Man U have issues. Arsenal nearly managed to take advantage of Chelsea's issues and some Man U stutters last year but were undone in lacking depth outside 14 or so players, and mental strength in general.

So, on the basis of a few games one is a functional defender (despite what Capello and Rafa say) and the other is a crock anyway and not having seen him play is irrelevant?

Similar feelings - but agree the excitement is rising!! Have a good feeling about the squad 'options' too - Forwards look awesome, midfield was already, and defence pretty good too. So long as we can cover for the Olympics players, and stay in the hunt early.

 

I have a feeling there's still a few more moves to happen too - maybe because it's not even August yet, and the August 31 deadline is a way away

 

 

My crystal ball says (or hopes) -

Pennant goes to Blackburn, Voronin goes back to Germany (he seems to be surplus), Arbeloa goes to Spain (for a decent fee), Yossi stays (he's a good option). Itandje goes anywhere for free if needs be...

We get Barry for similar amount to Alonso (sad to lose Xabi, but I do think he's not quite the player he was sadly...he looked a world beater), Silva comes too.....
