I'm choked up after seeing Bobby Robson get a lifetime achievement award, sadly looks very ill but gave a gave a cracking speech.

I was desperate for him to get through it without mixing his words up or getting embarrassed. I thought he did really well but its quite upsetting to see him like he is now.

I disagree. I'm not necessarily saying ManU should have got it, but if the above is the criteria, then perhaps we should have got it for getting to the CL final ?

 

It seems that the english national team has a head start in all sports. After all they gave it to the cricket team for beating 1 team in a series of games.

that's one way of looking at it - another is for winning the most prestigous prize in Test Cricket, beating the best team in the World for the first time in 18 years in arguably one of the best series the sport has ever seen.

 

 

Dunno who else was in contention this year but the Rugby boys making the final of the World Cup after being written off by all and sundry is a fair shout.

 

Not sure if they count as a 'team' but the UK cyclists dominating the World Championships would have been a good shout too.

Though the rugby team were the obvious choice, can't see why anyone thinks the mancs should have won it. We didn't even win it when we won the CL, so why would the mancs get it for winning the league?

 

It was a poor year but the England rugby teams performance in the WC were fantastic, specially considered the beatings they took earlier in the year, in fact that's what made the achievement so impressive.

 

If they were the second best team in the world who just ground out results to ultimately finish second, that wouldn't be as remarkable.

Yep, an English team doesn't win the treble every year, so it is a special achievement. Same as the CL is not won by an English team every year (though we try our best).
