honourablegeorge Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 The thought of Torres & Kewell against Newcastle's defence makes me feel all warm inside. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liv...-name_page.html
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Losing last seasons game was one of the poorest results of last season as it is not often we go 1-0 up away against poor opposition and lose the game. Hopefully we bury them this time !
Wardy Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 International Breaks bore me, they should be made illegal. Team for Newcastle: ..................Reina Arbeloa Carragher Agger Aurelio ..........Mascherano Sissoko Babel...........Gerrard..........Kewell ...................Torres That's getting close to our best eleven, put Xabi in for Momo and Yossi in for Babel and I reckon that's up there with any other first eleven in the league.
Ronnie Whelan Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) We need to put a few wins back to back leading up to the manc game and this weekends tie is the hardest of the three. Edited November 20, 2007 by Ronnie Whelan

Rimbeux Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Torres and Babel should run riot on their big pitch and malformed defence. However you play them, off Crouch in a front three or Torres up top, Babel wide, I think it's important to use their pace. Martins aside, they are not that mobile a side (not that we are), but we've got the players to really stretch the game, given the freedom. Not sure Kewell has the tempo we'll need to start with just yet, especially with ground to cover there, much will depend on Yossi recovering and how Mash bears up to the Sth American trip. 4-3-3?
fred milne Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I can imagine Rafa going for something like this: ReinaFinnan Carragher Agger ArbeloaBabel Gerrard Mascherano RiiseKuyt Torres Subs: Itandje, Hyypia, Lucas, Kewell, Crouch.
Stevie H Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I can imagine Rafa going for something like this: ReinaFinnan Carragher Agger ArbeloaBabel Gerrard Mascherano RiiseKuyt Torres Subs: Itandje, Hyypia, Lucas, Kewell, Crouch.i think that's much more like what we'll see rather than the above. it would be great if we can push that fraud allardyce a bit closer to the sack.
Wardy Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I'd start him - get it in the bag early and take him off then rather than huff and puff with Riise for 60 minutes plus and bring Kewell on when we're desperate for a goal. 4-3-3/4-5-1.
owenthomas Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 sorry to be a pain but could someone post the article for me? i can't get through to the echo site due to problems with our network in work.. thanks!

honourablegeorge Posted November 20, 2007 Author Posted November 20, 2007 sorry to be a pain but could someone post the article for me? i can't get through to the echo site due to problems with our network in work.. thanks! Fernando Torres lined up for Liverpool start at Newcastle Nov 20 2007 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo FERNANDO TORRES is being lined up to make his first start in almost a month when Liverpool face Newcastle United at the weekend. The Reds’ record signing has remained at Melwood during the international break to work on his fitness after struggling with an abductor muscle injury picked up in training with Spain at the start of October. Although Torres was deemed fit enough to start against Arsenal later that month, his comeback was short lived. He hobbled of at half-time and has not been in the starting eleven since then. But after making a goalscoring substitute appearance against Fulham at Anfield, Torres has stepped up his training and is now back to full fitness. And with Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Andriy Voronin all away on international duty for Euro 2008 qualifiers, the fact that Torres is the only forward Rafa Benitez has been able to work with for more than a week makes the Spanish striker favourite to start at St James’ Park. Harry Kewell is also in contention for a starting place having come through the full 90 minutes of Australia’s friendly match with Nigeria on Saturday. It was the first time Kewell has completed a full match in more than a year and Benitez is delighted to see the winger fit and ready for action. He said: “It was good to see Harry get 90 minutes. I was talking with him and he said it wasn't a high tempo game so he was able to get through it. “Physically he probably still needs to improve his pace and stamina but he is getting there. “When you talk about Harry then you talk about a player of quality and ability who can make a big difference to our team. He can give different things to us, especially against teams who play deep and compact.” Prior to Kewell joining up with the Australian squad, Benitez had expressed concern about the way he would be used by his country as he continues his battle for peak fitness. But Aussie coach Rob Baan believes he has done the Reds boss a big favour by giving Kewell a full run-out in a non-competitive game. He said: “At least I think I helped Benitez a little to prove that Kewell can play 90 minutes now. “He did a very good job in the first half and you could see in the second half that he needs more rhythm, but still he proved that he is a fantastic player.”

I want it to be us. Teletext on Sunday morning reading that Fat Sam had been sacked would make my cornflakes taste much better

Rimbeux Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 They might actually put a balanced side out without Owen, their fans are certainly not unhappy
Stevie H Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I want it to be us. Teletext on Sunday morning reading that Fat Sam had been sacked would make my cornflakes taste much betteras was pointed out on the grauniad podcast the other day, the minute your chairman is watching a match in with the fans and getting their thoughts about the manager, you're right up against it.
fred milne Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Probably right, would be nice to be able to rip their a*** both sidesBabel and Kewell have impressed recently coming off the bench but I'd imagine Rafa sees both starting as risky - particularly as Torres and Agger are also coming back from injury.
owenthomas Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 (edited) Cheers George.. Good to see Harry's got through 90 minutes unscathed.. reckon he'll be back in the starting line up sooner rather than later.. probably needs a couple of sub appearances to get his fitness back up there beforehand.. just tell him, and Nando (should they both play obviously!), to keep out the way of joey fkin Barton and we shouldn't have too many problems! Edited November 20, 2007 by owenthomas
Benitez Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 for once a player getting 90 mins in a friendly is a good thing! Be great to see Kewell starting v's Newcastle.
Ronnie Whelan Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 as was pointed out on the grauniad podcast the other day, the minute your chairman is watching a match in with the fans and getting their thoughts about the manager, you're right up against it. Good point, i thought that incident was very strange, especially considering how much of a private character the media say he is.
CarraLegend Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 just tell him, and Nando (should they both play obviously!), to keep out the way of joey fkin Barton and we shouldn't have too many problems! That horrible little s***house should be f***ing banned anyway but he's somehow got away with it. And his excuse for having his studs 2 feet off the floor going straight through someone "I haven't played much lately so I am a bit rusty"
Gunga Din Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 That horrible little s***house should be f***ing banned anyway but he's somehow got away with it. And his excuse for having his studs 2 feet off the floor going straight through someone "I haven't played much lately so I am a bit rusty" has that c*** not been banned? i'd send momo on with a few minutes to go if we were winning with the sole instruction of breaking the c***s spine

CarraLegend Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 has that c*** not been banned? i'd send momo on with a few minutes to go if we were winning with the sole instruction of breaking the c***s spine Nah, he's amazingly got away with it. Couldnt believe it. Was delighted at the thought of him being banned as he usually tries to break Alonso or Gerrard. Haha, agree about sending Mo on aswell.
