Lawro is bad at the best of times but his predictions for this weekend are ridicolous. Talking about playing to the English public. You'd really have to convince me that the Russia hasn't been bought:

SATURDAY'S EURO 2008 QUALIFIERS

Israel v Russia

(1800 GMT)

People have been writing this match off as a foregone conclusion ever since England lost to Russia in Moscow.

But I do not agree that Russia will canter to a win. Israel lose very few games at home and I think this will end in a draw.

The Russia we saw at Wembley was very different to the Russia we saw in Moscow. And Israel have the ability to make it very difficult for them.

The Israelis have only lost once at home in the campaign so far and that was against the group leaders Croatia.

There are not that many outstanding players in the Israel team, but they are a sound unit and will be quite content with a draw.

Prediction: 0-0

FYR Macedonia v Croatia

(1900 GMT)

England scraped through 1-0 in Macedonia thanks to Peter Crouch's goal and I cannot imagine the home side making it Valentine's Day for Croatia either.

Croatia know a point will be enough to earn qualification. And even though the players may not turn up and deliberately play for a draw, they will, subconsciously at least, play with the handbrake on.

It will not be a significant result in terms of England's chances, but I can certainly see a few twists and turns in this group all the way until next week's final matches.

Prediction: 1-1

he's got a point about tel aviv. by no means a gimme russian win.

Normally yes but with the amount of ties between the country I find it hard to believe the game is going to be a straight game. A huge amount of the Israeli population orginate from Russia, huge Jewish population in Russia, plenty of Oil barons who wouldn't bat an eyelid at paying it off.

Had this thought a while ago. When the Israelis have been talking about trying new players it kind of confirmed it for me.

They'll certainly be going into my accumalator this wend.

Someone told me that 2,000 England fans are going over for it

So, the ladies of Bosham, Cirencester and Chipping Campden will be lonely again this weekend.

You get the impression that someone is trying to tell the England manager something, what with all these injuries just before what could be his most important game in charge ( Thats if Russia draw ). "You took charge of what was supposed to be an excellent side and fecked it up. You dont deserve to qualify."

Do any on here think we do?

i hope russia win in tel aviv. the england set up needs a right kick up the a***. not that it would change anything of course, it'd still be the usual circus of bullsh*t, hype, moronic leadership and underachievement.

Unlike a lot of United and Liverpool fans, I am an England supporter. My eyes have been opened and I agree with you. Twice in one day. Sorry about that.

There's a Guardian blog that points out England's best recent performances have NOT included Gerrard AND Lampard, but rather 'one' of them plus a holding MF.

So what did he do last night? :banghead:

That and the fact he called Beckham up.

I am a Beckham fan and was gutted when SM told him he was not part of the set-up anymore. I felt he still had a lot to offer. I was well chuffed when he was recalled earlier this year, but now, the guy is playing in a pub team and their season is over. Bad call in my eyes.

England get a kick up the a*** at every major tournament. Its not like they've not had major dissapointments and a rude awakening before. I'm not bothered about England but qualification would at least give them a chance of doing something next year, even though logic suggests they won't.

I remember a few people hoping we finished 5th in Ged's last year just so he got sacked and the powers that be would get a kick up the a*** or whatever. Thank god that didn't happen

I guess Abramovich doesn't have enough money.

I'll go you one better - he should never have been hired in the first place. If the FA are serious about qualifying for and winning a competition, then they need to hire serious and talented people who have wit, personality and tactical nouse and the dynamic to impose it on the prima donnas such as Beckham and Terry. Ther is currently no English coach close to such a mark and they should bite the bullet and get the best they can, regardless of where he and his backroom team come from, then let them get on with the job.

Not that I give a crap really.

Great to see it wasn't. Had the makings of it to me to be honest

Abramovich is russian first, Jewish second and was bankrolling the russian effort - his face was like thunder in the crowd last night. No way was that fixed. The russians did an England.

I think there's a case to be made for replacing him after Wednesday regardless. There's a very good manager without a job until next season, who could be taken on as an short lease appointment for just the build up to and campaign to win the Euro tournament. If the executives are not seriously considering it, they should be removed, there will be a real chance to win the thing if a man with the right skills is put in charge. if things stay the same, they will likely stay the same with a crawl to a medium exit.

Agree entirely. Been telling everyone who will listen that Mourinho should at least be offered the job if we somehow fluke qualification. If he was asked if he'd do it up to and including Eurp 2008, I think he'd be tempted (particularly if Portugal don't make it).

'Big Phil' Scolari has been quoted to say he will be leaving the Portugese national coach job at the end of Euro 08. Jose will be looking for work about then ;)

Hopefully the F.A. will take their heads out of their arses and get the big fella in.
