question about group stages

this maybe a stupid question

if in a group stage of any competition all games end as draws with the same score how do they work out who qualifies?

Another cup game related question. Does anyone else find it unfair that the away goal rule carries on if a 2-legged game goes into extra time? for example last years CL semi with Chelsea at ours, if they'd have scored in ET, we'd have needed two, but if we'd have scored, one goal for them would have won it. I don't understand how that's fair because they'd have had 30 minutes longer to score an away goal?

I agree with that, makes the whole thing very fraught.

While the home team have got 30 minutes longer at home with their supporters backing.
