Clattenburg not suspended

Vindication

Keith Hackett the FA Refereeing supremo has confirmed that Mark Clattenburg is missing next Saturday's Premiership programme because he had already booked a holiday. He has not been suspended.

The phenomenal decibel level of the whine that went up from Goodison following the Derby Match seems to have convinced everybody, including many Liverpool supporters, that Liverpool were lucky to emerge from the game with three points. We were not. Much as David Moyes, Andy Gray, Alan Hansen etc etc would have us believe otherwise.

The row about Clattenburg results from him being an exceptionally good referee. If he had given a penalty when Lescott backed into Carragher in injury time, there would have been much less fuss, but it would have been the wrong decision. Backing on looks very convincing because it forces the defender to grab hold in an attempt to avoid falling over.

Kuyt's lunge was indeed reckless, but a red card would have been inappropriate because he didn't actually connect.

Andy Gray pointed out in the Last Word that Clattenberg could not see the Carra-Lescott incident. An Everton player was standing directly in view of Clattenbergs line-of-sight for the incident. Gray even asked Keys if the ref had a good view and Keys answered that the evidence clearly showed that Clattenbergs view was obscured.

Deep breath......you would assume that 2 people paid to give their views on football to the nation would then go on to say something as follows "....Referees are in the business of calling it as they see it - if they cannot see it then they cant give it"

But........wrecklessly, Gray contends that Lescott would never have fallen in that position if he had not been dragged down.

FFS, is he asking the referee to take a leap of faith and give a decision that he has not seen but weigh up all probabilities ??????

He vindicated Clattenberg on national televison but the stupid c*nt still proceeded to berate him. If ever there was a case of being brutally unprofessional then this is it.

You re wrong. Gray definitely said that, and repeatedly.

Oh sorry, that was about the Gerrard penalty! My mistake!

th eonly danger is he, when he referee's our next game he may be inclined to give us nothing to try and even things up

Or he'll take a leaf out of Mike Riley's book and continue to give penalties to teams especially in red !

Why? He did'nt 'favour' us in any way. Our 2 pens were pens, their pen claims were sh!te. Whats there to even up?

I consider Clattenburg one of the top 3 refs in England. I think he did as well as could be expected in a derby.

He did better than i expected

I'm very glad about this cos what he did is exactly how a derby should be ref. Calm and sensible, keep the cards in the pocket except it's really necessary and not to add to the fuse.
