floyd the barber Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 that........ ---------------reina---------------finnan---carra----agger--arbeloa------------------------------------gerrard-alonso--masch---babel-----------kuyt----torres------------- Would be a team with the potential to quite easily challenge for the premiership, with all fit...id love the see the above start...with babel given an extended run and maybe interchanging with benyoun depending on opposition... I know its gonna make people angry, but STILL gerrard is our best player for the right hand side(and with the amount of central midfielders, surely its better to put 2 top drawer midfielders in the middle and place the world class gerrard on the right in a free role of sorts)..., he links up with finnan superbly and can cut inside and play the kind of passes torres would thrive on...also add to the fact that gerrard and kuyt are quite capable of swapping positions...and you have a side that is flexible....strong in defence, great invention, pace, energy and goals... sorry for bringing up the gerrard on the right old horse again, but the fact remains.....(i think hes better there) and we dont have anyone as good as him who can play there....and just to rub it in, we have world class central midfielders in abundance in central midfield. anyone agree / disagree....??
John am Rhein Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I reckon that's our strongest side. It certainly has the potential to challenge for the championship, but there are a lot of factors that will determine the outcome beyond just team selection.
fred milne Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I reckon that's our strongest side. That's probably right - the only question mark is over LM. Babel is worth a try there but it does leave us with two right-footers on the left.
John am Rhein Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Good point about the 2 right-footers. Riise it is then!
Coyler Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Stick in Harry Kewell instead of Babel, if you're involving currently injured players, and you could get away with putting Riise behind him instead of Arbeloa.
Guest Kaizer Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Babel is no left winger and Voronin is a better player than Kuyt and complements Torres better as well as he links up better with our midfielders.
Logic Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Looks good except there'd be one thing that worries me about that team. It could get too narrow playing like that. If we have Gerrard on the the right we need someone who'll stay out wide on the other side. IMO we just need one left winger into that (if we are going to be playing 4-4-2) and put Babel up front with Torres.
honourablegeorge Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Think Voronin/Kuyt is far too close to call.
cymrococh Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Think Voronin/Kuyt is far too close to call.Voronin scores more.
Guest PaulMcC Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 I'd say that might be our best side. Or maybe Pennant on the left.
Wardy Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Stick in Harry Kewell instead of Babel, if you're involving currently injured players, and you could get away with putting Riise behind him instead of Arbeloa. Would you want to put Riise at left back ahead of Arbeloa? I wouldn't.
cymrococh Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 no he doesn'tGoals scored:Voronin: 4Kuyt: 3 Goals per game:Andriy Voronin .4 Dirk Kuyt .33
Hassony Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Goals scored:Voronin: 4Kuyt: 3 Goals per game:Andriy Voronin .4 Dirk Kuyt .33 Voronin scored 69 goals in 202 games in his club career ( 0.34 goals per game)Kuyt scored 161 goals in 347 games (0.46)
owenthomas Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 only Kaizer can really solve this.. statistically speaking..
psl Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 Voronin scored 69 goals in 202 games in his club career ( 0.34 goals per game)Kuyt scored 161 goals in 347 games (0.46) Surely we're only interested in goals for Liverpool though. I know that prevous records can be suggestive but they don't take into account requirements being put onto the player by the role that Rafa asks them to play.

I know that prevous records can be suggestive but they don't take into account requirements being put onto the player by the role that Rafa asks them to play. than its far too early in the season to suggest that voronin scores more than Kuyt, its like saying Lescott scores more goals than andy johnson
Hassony Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 You deal with scored. I deal with the present day. Kuyt is out, Voronin is in! you just hate Kuyt because he is ugly, you probably though clough was a better player than beardo
Kahnee Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 As an aside, while I agree with the line-up in the original post, I'm not sure I'm prepared to put up with six months of "Gerrard should be played through the middle/he's not happy playing wide" etc etc
Kahnee Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 every team needs a scape goat Which is where rotation comes in to its own
cymrococh Posted October 10, 2007 Posted October 10, 2007 you just hate Kuyt because he is ugly, you probably though clough was a better player than beardoI hate you because you're ugly.
