The_Adder Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I thought Pennant was superb towards the end of last season, full of confidence and looking like the player his potential has always suggested. This season hes been pretty average IMHO, had his moments but had a few nightmares too, like the Porto game. Now hes got some serious competition in Yossi for the right hand side, a very different player. Whereas Pennant is all about crosses and setting up the play, Yossi is more direct and is a lot more creative and also provides a serious goal threat. I'd personally prefer Benni on the right as I think he suits the way we have been playing (bar the last few games), the passing and linking up game that made us look so good early on and with the likes of Stevie, Xabi, Torres, Kuyt, Voronin and Babel in the side he suits us well. Think Pennant is more effective when both Crouch and Kuyt are in the side as he has targets to hit, not so sure he suits this new style of play...
yellow jumper Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 like most of the rest of them pennant was very good up until the international break.
Cooldude Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 We still need to buy that top class winger that we've been needing for so long. Pennant's only good as a 2nd choice. I like Yossi and think he'll bring a lot to the side, hope he starts more. IMO atm both of them should start
Guest Lennon Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Rafa will use both of them depending on who we're playing, like he's always done.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Benayoun for me. Pennants movement is poor and he offers zero goal threat. Benayoun although can be frustrating, he is open to a pass, can create chances with his passing and offers a goal threat.
Guest Lennon Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Are we going to write all our players off after every average game?

honourablegeorge Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I think Benayoun's a better player, simple as. I don't see pennant offering anythign that Benayoun couldn't do as well or better. Pennant has improved from last season, granted, but he's still nowhere near the player he's made out to be by some on here.
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Are we going to write all our players off after every average game? I wouldn't know, I am not a 'clued up red'
Bailo Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Are we going to write all our players off after every average game? It's The Liverpool Way.
kopindian Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I want us to try 4-2-3-1 with Beanyoun in the hole & Gerrard wide right.
The_Adder Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) Rafa will use both of them depending on who we're playing, like he's always done. 100% Correct. But that wasnt what I was asking... Kopindian - I'd like to see that too, with Babel on the left and Torres up top, could be deadly! Edited October 1, 2007 by Collide
Smith Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I want us to try 4-2-3-1 with Beanyoun in the hole & Gerrard wide right. I like.
Guest Lennon Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I want us to try 4-2-3-1 with Beanyoun in the hole & Gerrard wide right. .......................Reina ......Finnan..Carra..Arbeloa..Aurelio ................Masch....Alonso........Stevie....................Babel...................Benayoun ......................Torres Top side. Plenty of flair and a solid defendive base.
Maldini Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 These "daddy or chips" threads are getting annoying, they're both good players, they suit different games.
honourablegeorge Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Think Benayoun's a good player, possibly more than good. Pennant's no more than adequate/average.

Guest Lennon Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) Sorry, injuries permitting. Hmmm, why have I included Alonso then. Of course Agger and Alonso are in. I'm rambling. Edited October 1, 2007 by Lennon

I like what we have at the moment. 4 players with different attributes competing for the 2 wide positions (Riise, Babel, Pennant, Benayoun). Depending on circurmstance you can start with any two from that 4. I like the fact that when the 3 genuine wide men are selected that they can swap sides at will as this often unsettles defenders.

You wouldn't take that XI to the pit though.
