I went against Ipswich - November 2005? Carling cup at Anfield - about 22,000 pay on the night.

 

I remember some early CL games not being full.

 

Now we are sold out every single Anfield game..

 

Any idea anyone why this is now the case? Don't think the team is necessarily better than GH's (3 cr"p draes in last 2 weeks ! Kuyt not scoring goals. Crouch could not hit a barn door and can not head a ball etc..)..

 

Used to be said midweek games better to go to coz out of towners cannot travel as easily... not the case anymore

In answer to the original question, I think that two big factors are:

 

(1) The option for season ticket holders to 'tick the box' and automatically get home Cup tickets

(2) A greater awareness of the need to build up fan card credits (even amongst ST holders) in order to qualify for the later rounds

For what its worth, when I was growing up my older brother and his friends called Livepool "the pool" and they were die-hard reds. So maybe its an older fans way of calling their team?

But does that not just make it easier for the local fan who can only be arsed going to the big games? If it was window sales only then Liverpool v Mancs would have queues miles long and Liverpool v Derby would only sell to 30,000.
