did you notice on football focus that in the first clip where he was running down the left wing doing it that they didn't show the defender fly in and take him out with a karate kick?

that's the one. lovely.

notice in the second clip that one of his team-mates appears to be telling him not to do it?

He deserves to be taken out like that. What he's doing isn't against the laws of the game, but how do you tackle someone like that without fouling them? you either head it way (and in doing so probably head-but the guy - oh how unfortunate) or you do a high kick, where you'll be penalised for foot up. Hopefully he'll stop doing it after someone breaks his face with a head or boot.

shoulder charge? taking his shorts off?

I dont think he's actually doing anything wrong or inflamatory. It's a great skill and is designed to get past players, not to waste time or wind the clock down

It should be easy to stop.

1. Don't give him the time to flick the ball up.

2. If he has time to do that let him run into you.

3. If that fails use your shoulder to put him off balance.

But maybe, it isn't that simple....

he's blatantly taking the piss out of his opponents and is asking to have his head kicked off. of course it's inflammatory.

so you think alain rabidoux should have t***ed o'sullivan for playing left handed against him?

me too

Anymore than 'megs, anymore than chipping a penalty, anymore than a backheal or flick between the legs, anymore than crossing from round the back of your standing leg? He's developed a skill which makes him very hard to stop without fouling him, it's designed to go past people.

But Alain should have had the perspective to see that Ronnie had high ability when he switched and that it allowed him to play more shots without a rest or lying across the table

it'd a great trick - it takes the piss because it's so hard to deal with - all the more reason to do it. There should be cards galore when he is stopped illegally.

if crouch can manage to do it he would be unstopable

if you nutmeg someone you should expect the next tackle on you to hurt, of course it's taking the piss. likewise crossing round the back of your standing leg, the rabona, it's showboating and you should expect retribution. a backheel is completely different, that's a pass that can be stopped by traditional means.

kerlon's seal s*** pretty much can't be stopped without fouling him and he knows it. therefore he's taking the piss and should expect to get whacked. it's not a great skill, it's showboating and there's a huge and specific difference between the two.

balls. kill the c***.

Shoulder to shoulder would probably be enough to put him off balance, but he does seem to very quick and with a low enough centre of gravity that it would be difficult.

I agree with those who are saying it's a legal part of the game and a skill he has developed, but I'd also like to point that he knows he will be fouled when doing this, so if he's willing to take the occasional injury, he can draw free kicks and cards regularly.

Which is?

Which is?

see above. there's an inherent difference between a great piece of spontaneous technical improvisation / skill which flummoxes an opponent and balancing the ball on your head or nutmegging a guy. the latter is showboating to embarrass and humiliate an opponent and gets you a deserved studs down the calf next challenge.
