I'm wound up because I lack confidence. Despite our summer signings, I remain to be convinced that we will produce a team capable of brushing the likes of Villa aside. I fear another poor start to a season, with a lot of tinkering and rotation, and few decent chances produced. Maybe Benayoun will be influential - in his West Ham days, he did create plenty of chances and scored quite a few himself.

If its not an absolutely s**** game i'll be very surprised. 1. It's Villa away, 2. Its opening day. Can't remember the last time it was a good game on opening day, probably when Stig scored and Ravanelli got a hatrick and we drew 3-3 at Boro.

I'm not expecting a great game. I was hoping for an attacking performance last week versus Feyenoord when we played a strong team, but it didn't happen. As much as I think everyone at the club wants a fast start, I don't think that equates to coming out all guns blazing, 100 miles an hour attacking football. I think it'll mean they'll be cautious not to lose, and some of the new players cautious not to do wrong, along with many of the other first team who are under pressure fromother members of the squad.

 

Ultimately, I think its that fear of doing bad that hinders us. Until we can break that fear and actually play like we believe we should win and not shouldn't lose (I think only Stevie has that attitude in the main), then we'll struggle to overcome our usual banana skins.
