Is he at Fulham again this season or has he gone back to Roma? He was one of my favourite players when I used to watch a lot of Italian footy, along with Batistuta.

What a great little striker he is - an unbelievable finisher backed up by a phenomenal scoring record in Serie A and for me is one of the most under-rated players of recent times.

He would have made a great ceremonial goslscorer replacement for Robbie in his twilight years because he still looks in decent shape...

Looked it up and Montella scored 185 goals in 348 games in Italy with Empoli, Genoa, Sampdoria and Roma.

That really is a fantastic record, particularly as defences were damn tough over in Italy during the 1990s, plus his Roma games include quite a few sub appearances as Capello went for Totti and Batistuta a lot of the time.

I remember him scoring 4 times when Roma beat Lazio 5-1 in their derby; one of the best finishing displays you'll ever see that was, against a defence still including Nesta.

Hope he does well back at Sampdoria.

Feel the same way about him. Something about his absolutely natural gift for finishing that was very reminicent of Fowler in his prime. One of those genius scorers, who scores all sorts of goals. Think had it not been for a few untimely injuries, he wouldn't be as under-rated as he is.

Glad he's no longer at Fulham. A long ball prick like Sanchez doesn't deserve a player of Montella's quality.

Absolutely - I used the Fowler comparison when people were talking about him last season. They are both finishing artists with every type of goal.

Someone like Shearer in his prime for example was a fantastic finisher, but his way of doing it was belting everything; he had great technique and it's not a criticism as there are loads of top strikers who have largely done the same.

However Fowler and Montella are great examples of strikers with a genuine flair for finishing. Presented with a good chance they could do anything from chipping it to placing it, a dink over the keeper or going for power. Also both are two-footed, and because their timing is so good can grab the odd goal with headers despite not being the tallest.

Basically they can score every single type of goal; great, great strikers in their day both of them. Funnily yet another comparison is that neither won more than 20 caps or got out of double figures for goals at international level, which for players of their ability is a travesty.

Who was the t*** with the mask at Fulham, shocking

Facundo Sava. I took an immediate dislike to him for some reason. I remember thinking before we played them, "this f*cker is gonna score against us", and sure enough, he did. Twice if I recall correctly. I hated him even more after that.

i am not confusing the two, i remember he tried to claim the second goal as well

Your memory is better than mine, so. To this day, I still can't believe that Kevin Lisbie scored three goals against us. Truly bizarre.

Horrible match that was. I doubt he scored many more than 3 goals after the hatrick he scored against us. Currently at Colchester.
