We`ve paid alot of money out in the past 10-15 years on strikers.....all havent really justified their price tag, in a couple of instances....been a complete disaster.

Heskey yes i know is a borderline one....was heavily involved in us winning the treble, still did he ever truly justify the 11million which was alot of money at the time, i dont believe so...

So, 20million plus for Torres......what does he have that can make the difference..

Well number one, he seems like a failry intellegent guy(something i wouldnt call the strikers i named above)...you dont become a captain of your side just because you`ve grown up with them...shows alot of passion, is decent with both feet, good in the air, is excellent at bringing others into the game( a quality Rafa likes).......

Only questions might well be the physical aspect.....his scoring record is pretty good for a team as poor as athletico....he can also play on the wing and shows a decent cross (he played there quite a bit last season, as Athletico were short on wingers)..

So, of course the jury is out.....and after buying the number 9 shirts of diouf and cisse....i might give it a few months before i get a torres one..

Definetly excited by this.....and we now have a serious predator on the books who will compliment both crouch and kuyt wonderfully.

Collymore justified the price and was fantastic in his first season. But we sold him once it became clear he was a loon on the way down to loonville

colly was a loon. but a net cost of 1mil for the season was well worth it for me. Its villa who bore the brunt of his journey to crazy town afteh they bought him for 7 mil from us.

No other partnership has been as exciting as colly and god.

Between Robbie and COllymore they had everything. An awesome pairing in 05/06.

One not playing and one slow as f***

Collymore and Fowler were a great partnership and could and should have got better with time. Stan's mistake was not leaving the midlands for a permanent base in Liverpool.

As for Emile, Diouf and Cisse. All three were bought as strikers yet spent more time out of position on the wing.

At least with Torres he is capable of playing there without a problem, but hopefully he wont have to.

That was madness, the club shouldn't have allowed that from the off.

Such a shame, the way both turned out.
