Here is a good article about real madrid and their treatment of Capello. I think it's disgraceful and also quite mental how this Calderon d****ead has been acting. Have a look boys!

http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/22062007/58/...pello-quit.html

"We will decide whether Capello should stay on as coach or not next Monday or Tuesday.

"It isn't normal that within 24 hours of winning the title people are talking about the future of the coach. I can't imagine Liverpool doing the same if they had won the league.

"It is rather sad.

"According to [sporting director Predrag] Mijatovic we cannot talk to anyone who has a contract, but if we need a new coach and Schuster sorts things out with Getafe then I imagine Mijatovic will look at him.

"But Mijatovic has also talked to me about [Ronald] Koeman, [Michael] Laudrup and [Arsene] Wenger."

Real Madrid President, Ramon Calderon, June 2007

- - -

Despite claiming that his election at the end of the 2005/6 season would signal the end of the Galactico era of pampered superstars and fearful, subservient coaches pandering to his players' egos, Calderon has proved himself to be just as short-sighted and inconsistent as his predecessors.

Capello was brought in for his second spell at Madrid with the brief to shake the club up from the bottom up by instilling tactical, professional and personal discipline on the players - making it clear that he was the boss - and by buying young talent with long-term playing gain and not shirt sales in mind.

And that is exactly what he did. Exciting youngsters from South America and battle-hardened veterans with a history of winning trophies were shipped in from Serie A. The overweight, oversexed and underachieving Ronaldo was shipped out to Milan, pizza-faced whinger Antonio Cassano was told to sling his hook and loyal servants such as Roberto Carlos, Ivan Helguera, Francisco Pavon and - eventually - David Beckham were allowed to see out their contracts with dignity.

He made an example of Brazilian bad-boy Robinho when he turned up to training showing the after-effects of a night on the tiles, making it perfectly clear that La Marcha of Madrid was not compatible with the rigours of high-end professional football. Anyone who frequented the clubs and bars of the city in the early part of the millennium will testify that a drinking culture amongst footballers is not solely confined to the British Isles.

Not only did Capello answer his brief, he won the title in his first season. Granted, he was fired by Real after doing exactly that in 1997, but this is a different time, a different era - Los Merengues had not won a major trophy in four years, with fierce rivals Barcelona the dominant force in Spanish football.

So why on earth is Calderon making public his desire to find a replacement for Capello, while simultaneously acknowledging the folly of such a claim? And why is he naming potential successors and, in the same breath, admitting that he should not be doing so?

Because he is bonkers. No, seriously, the man is loco and anything he says should not be believed - not a word of it.

Let's look at this chronologically. When standing for election last year, Calderon promised the signings of Cesc Fabregas, Kaka and Arjen Robben. Not one of these promised talents were captured, Real's appeal clearly limited by several seasons of relative mediocrity. Instead he bought Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Ruud van Nistelrooy, all top-class players but with other reasons to move from Juventus and Manchester United respectively; Juve had just been relegated for match-fixing and Van Nistelrooy deemed surplus to requirements by Sir Alex Ferguson after rows with players and staff at the club.

Lyon midfielder Mahamado Diarra was brought in, followed by promising Argentines Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain in January, but Calderon's public promises were unfulfilled and resulted in accusations of illegal tapping-up by Chelsea, Milan and Arsenal.

Then, when David Beckham opted to pre-sign with LA Galaxy after falling out of favour at Real, Calderon accused the former England captain of being a half-baked Hollywood actor. Beckham was told to train with the reserves; only recalled when Capello realised he still had plenty to offer. But surely Calderon would have been happy to get rid of the marketing man's fantasy, the ultimate Galactico? Was that not his plan?

So we should take his comments that Capello - could be replaced with any one of Europe's top coaches - despite the former Milan, Juventus and Roma boss' superior record to all of them - with a pinch of salt.

Capello, however, should not. He should be treated with the respect that a man with a 100 percent record of two Liga titles in two seasons deserves. Not to mention seven Serie A titles with three different clubs, including Roma.

Capello should tell them to shove their white handkerchiefs where the sun doesn't shine and take his pick of clubs in Italy or England, or even retire to a beach where he can put his feet up under a "winners eat steak" parasol with his legendary status secured.

Schuster, Wenger, Laudrup and Koeman - neither of them are as good a coach as Capello. Real Madrid are nuts if they sack him to bring in an inferior coach to him. Although wouldn't blame Capello if he left!

dead right. If Rafa were to leave and I could pick any manager in the world whether available or not, then i'd pick him. Shame he's thinking of retiring early just cause Calderon is mad. I was going for real Madrid to win the league but when you see stuff like this you gotta wonder. There is something very wrong with real.

Prior to this league win the last one was under Del Bosque who also won the CL and he got sacked so there is certainly a precedent for Capello getting the door.

Given Reals' trigger happy finger I can't see why someone like Rafa, Wenger or anyone else with half a brain would ever think of going there as they'd get no more than 2 years there - irrespective of what was won, thereby making the idea of building a team to suit their needs a complete non-runner.

Real have been a circus for a number of years, the concept of having a manager there for 3 years and building his own team is alien to the meddling gits upstairs. It must be incredibly frustrating for the fans to put up with that s****.

As an aside, How many managers (temporary or otherwise) have they had in the last 10 years?

Must be 20 plus. - edit forget it - answer is 12 since January 96

P W D L %

Arsenio Iglesias January 1996 May 1996 19 10 4 5 52.63%

Fabio Capello May 1996 June 1997 42 27 11 4 64.29%

Jupp Heynckes June 1997 May 1998 38 17 12 9 44.74%

Guus Hiddink May 1998 February 1999 23 11 4 8 47.83%

John Toshack February 1999 November 1999 26 13 7 6 50%

Vicente Del Bosque November 1999 June 2003 141 78 37 26 55.32%

Carlos Queiroz June 2003 May 2004 38 21 7 10 55.26%

José Antonio Camacho May 2004 September 2004 3 2 0 1 66.67%

Mariano García Remón September 2004 Dec 2004 13 7 2 4 53.85%

Vanderlei Luxemburgo December 2004 Dec 2005 35 23 4 8 65.71%

Juan Ramón López Caro December 2005 May 2006 24 12 9 3 50%

Fabio Capello May 2006 Present 38 23 7 8 60.53%

So no one gets more than a single year max apart from Del Bosque.

Yeah I can see the appeal for top managers alright

you know that I am glad that they are so completely petulant about how they run their club because if they were anywhere near professional in their approach to the game then Rafa would have said goodbye to us a long time ago.

six managers in a three year period on either side of del bosque's reign. That's embarrassing.

I think both Real and Barca are embarrasing clubs. They always do their business in the media and always have to claim what players they want to sign and what managers they want to bring in. They can f*** off, both of them. I hope Sevilla wins La Liga next year.

Real are completely bonkers.

I'd love Capello to tell them to stick it, but it's probably worth a lot of money to him to let them sack him so I wouldn't blame him if he didn't. I found myself wanting Real to win the title for the manager's sake, when I can't stand them as a club. No loyalty, dignity or respect.

Like I've said before, Capello was very gracious when Gerard Houllier made his return from illness and we knocked them out of the Champions League, and has always been very complimentary about us and English football in general. He's a great manager and a decent guy.

England should fire off Second Choice Steve and get this guy in; he's said before he'd be interested in the England job and he'd sort out the primadonnas in that setup in no time.

He'd be my first choice if Rafa went.

Likewise.

When people were starting to worry that Rafa might go, I hoped that if he did that Capello would come the other way.
