Excerpts from a Gazzetta Dello Sport interview with Pele:

What about Milan in the Champs Lge final?

Logically they are the favourites seeing how they have been improving with every game since meeting Bayern. It is their great chance to avenge themselves for what happened in Istanbul.

What type of game will it be?

Very different to the Man Utd game. Liverpool do not play entertaining, open, offensive football. They are physically very strong, have excellent cover and then launch counter-attacks led by Gerrard. Milan will need to hold their nerve.

What will be the key to this game?

I'd imagine the midfield battle between Mascherano and Gattuso. Milan are technically superior and in Kaka and Seedorf they have two players who can be the difference between two teams in a game. Seedorf quietly gives the team a lot of balance. He hides the ball, provides many assists. The two together could signify winning the Champs Lge.

I really hate statements like this even if they're partly true. We're no Brazil but we have a lot more to our game than these supposed experts make out.

Yeah but what does he know?

If i want some valid views, one person i dont go around asking is the bloke who cant even get a lob on...

And a lot the time we don't and have nothing more to our game than hoofed long balls, the first leg of the semi as an example.

Fair comments but nothing ground breaking really. It'll be a tight game that's for sure.

I believe that Pele knows nothing about football. He has done nothing as a coach and all his analysis always turn out to be wrong. If you want to win a title, you have to listen to Pele and then do the opposite.

I'm surprised that he isn't backing Chelsea, neither of them can get past a semi.

i agree that we dont play an entertaining game of football BUT, we are ALWAYS involved in entertaining games WHEN it matters...

For example, not a chance wed`s game will be anything like the yawnfest of todays FA cup final....

We have been involved in more classic games than anyone else, id say definetly in europe possibly the world in these past 10-15 years.

I don't remember many long balls from us in that game. I saw a lot of s*** defending and poor build up play. Maybe you were watching it with Pele.

Like I said, we're not perfect, but we're certainly not the anti-football merchants that many like to make out, especially at home.

We've certainly missed flair players like Kewell and Garcia who bring another dimension to our play.

It was an interview to the Italian press. If interviewed by an english newspaper, he would say the absolute opposite. Pele is known for being biased towards whichever country he is in/talking about at the time.

Besides which he once claimed Nicky Butt was the best player at the World Cup. Fool.

Cruyff once said when pele opens his mouth it's time to go to the bar and completely forget about football

sad to see nothing has changed

what he has said is true.. not sure if he means it in a negative way but the very reason man utd are out out of the champions league is because they play open attacking football. We on the other hand are a better team than utd, now. we'll give milan a far better game than utd did so let people say what they want, I don't care anymore.

That's it then. This is the confirmation that we are going to win. Pele has a great reputation as a s*** predictor. I am off to a bookie.

 If Rafa ever went to Madrid, this guy wouldn't be a bad replacement!

Too many pundits are full of this 'Pele is untouchable' s****. Somebody really needs to tell him his opinions are severely mentally impairmed and then punch him in the face.

Yeah I remember Bascombe taking the piss out of him in the Summer, something about Pele saying Gerrard is the best player in the World when only the day before Pele had said Totti was.

You cant beat totti, even if you cant get hard

I don't think we're a counterattacking team. We don't have the pace for it.

Our style is based on being solid of course. But when we get the ball we're usually slow the game down and excert the 'control' Rafa loves.

Then we work the ball forwards, with a view to crosses or around the box efforts. Not often you see someone clean through from a through ball. Maybe that's just because teams defend deep against us.

We're more attractive than we're given credit for.

We hammered Arsenal, Chelsea at home and though we lost to the Mancs we we're all over them.

We've just not got rid of the stigma of Houllier's years where we really we're poor in possession.

Rafa will get there, and hopefully this Wednesday will be another nail in the crap that we're just a physical team.

how many gaols have we scored this season on the counter attack ?

well that is the one thing that I disagree with when I hear the things that are talked about in this thread. We are a team that is based on defense rather than attack. We work as a combination of the players and not on the flair of one or 2 individuals. We are cautious and generally play a patient game. We do not have the kind of quality that milan have to play an very attractive passing game however we do have the quality of players who can shut them down. We have the very quality that Sir Alex's team totally lack and that is to close down the opposition and to fight as a unit for possession.

As I said before in another thread, all the talk of us fluking the champions league in 2005 is now gone! Of course now it has been replaced with this rubbish that we are somehow inferior to all these others teams who are no longer in the competition!

It is very easy for ferguson to say that he knows for certain that milan will beat liverpool. The poor fecker was totally out of his depth in the 2nd leg and has now got it into his tiny red head that if he cant out-think a manager then nobody can. It was the very same in 2005, his side were knocked out by milan and ferguson simply hasnt figured out that in order to beat milan, you need a group of lads who are willing to work at holding possession. that means that when you lose it, you track back and also put defenders and the keeper under pressure when they have the ball.

I find it hilarious that a man like Alex has the nerve to take a snipe at Rafa just after his team have been totally humilated and gone out of a competition that Liverpool have yet again battled their way into the final of.

I have to say that whatever happens... Milan like us, are a group of professionals who work well as a unit. they have some fantastic players in their team who I really admire in general. if there is any team in the world who i would hate least to lose a final to then it is them.
