"We were good friends until we started winning, then he started changing his mind."

"It is the same with all the managers of the top sides. He has very good relationships with managers of teams that normally he beats."

"Then he started fighting with the managers of the top sides. He has already started it with us, yesterday."

Loved the little twinkle in his eye at the end of the press conference last night, when asked have you started the war of words with Maureen he replied 'no he did that last night'! :D

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has cranked up the war of words with Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho ahead of their Champions League semi-final.

Mourinho has already claimed Liverpool will be favourites as they are only challenging for the Champions League.

But Benitez said: "We were good friends until we started winning, then he started changing his mind.

"It's the same with the managers of the top sides. He has good relationships with managers of teams he beats."

He added: "He fights with the managers of the top sides. He has already started it with us, yesterday!"

Rafa is fully supported by the club and no interference from the management while Mourinho despite his achievements is having an uncomfortable relationship with the owner. He prolly envies Rafa's position, though he'd never admit.

Rafa is the man. Let Maureen and Slur Alex do all the bitching about the league while we sit back and watch from the sidelines.

would you rather not be involved in chasing the league?

Obviously we'd much rather be competing for the league as well as the CL. That ship has long sailed. We have as good a chance as any of the others in the CL now, and hopefully some astute business over the summer and a bit more consistency next term will see us fight for the league right to the end.

Rafa's always going to win these battles of words in English eyes. He has that deadpan, ironic delivery so highly cherished in the Isles, whereas Mourinho tends to veer towards the hysterical rants.
