Rafa and the owners

We are all hearing about Rafa wanting assurances from the new owners etc etc etc.

But what happens if the new owners are not happy with Rafa and want assurances from him.

Why would they not be happy with Rafa, Kev?

Haven't a clue, I'm just bored and wanted to know how people would feel if it happened.

I carn't see any reason G&H would have to be unhappy with Rafa, tbh.

As for assurances, I'm sure they'll be sought and given on both sides

I stick by what I said that got closed on account of sillyness: for Rafa to leave (or be sacked) at this point would be a major setback for the club IMO.

I think he has an idea of where he wants the team to go and how he wants it to play. It's obviously not there yet, but we're definitely making progress - todays disappointing performance notwithstanding.

I'd hope the new owners would not be so arrogant as ignore any advice from Rick Parry or David Moores as to whether or not Rafa is the right man to oversee the long time future of the club.

I suppose it depends upon whether or not Rafa is prepard to give assurances about his long term intentions. If he admits that he might be tempted to leave in a year or so then maybe the new owners might instruct Parry to look for a new manager.

I would assume that they have done their homework on him and with them both knowing their own limitations concerning football they will probably have sought the opinions of people who know the game. The interesting thing would be to know who these people are. There are plenty of journalists, media pundits etc who have a different agenda from that of Liverpool supporters. Moores and Parry will no doubt have given Rafa a glowing reference, but as they brought him to the club that may limit the influence of their views with Gillett and Hicks. The most positive thing Rafa could do (and he appears to be doing it) is lay out his vision and demands for the club when he meets them. I get the impression from the little I have seen of both co-owners that they want a single-minded, determined man to run the team. The more impressed they are with him the more they are likely to support his plans financially and then leave him alone to implement them.

Am sure that Hicks-Gillet do want assurances if Rafa wants to go to Madrid and G-H want their investment to be the pinnacle of excellence and the top team they surely want Managers/Players to come here not to leave. IMO

Maybe becos the club spent a decent amount of money last summer only to go backwards with their last hope lying in the champions league ,if Liverpool go out against PSV for arguments sake the season would have to go down as a complete failure?

it's a simple situation.

rafa wants players so he can win the title

george and tom have the money

rafa gets money from george and tom

george and tom tell rafa he has to win the title

not really, a complete failiure would be coming 5th.

we spent a decent amount of money at places we did not want to shop.

for me only Kuyt was a first choice of the manager .

I don't believe we've gone backwards myself, we've strengthened the 1st team squad, but there's a way to go yet, obviously.

Also, we'll need to spend quite a bit more than 'a decent amount' to challenge the scum and Chelsea. Rome was'nt built in a day, unless you happen to be a Russian Roman with almost limitless funds.

If we only allow G&H in for the big glory games then everything will be ok....

Seriously its an intriguing situation, I don?t know how much G&H understand about ?soccer? and likewise I have no idea how they will interpret the vibes coming form Rafa re: wanting to talk and needing some reassurances.

This is going to be a really interesting few months.

The Americans arn't that clued up with 'soccer' and it will probably be the case that G&H and their sons will want to see more and more PL soccer on 'TIVO' - their version of Sky+, i doubt it would not escape their notice that Utd play attractive attacking pacy exciting football and score lots of goals - they may compare our football unfavourably with Utd's (quite rightly) and may want to ask Rafa (In an innocent American way) why we play boring slow football compared to them - HICKS: "Do we do it on purpose Roffa and is it part of our masterplan for domination?".
