Any news on that Mcarthy kid that everone was raving about?

I think he was going to decide after the end of the season and make his move in the summer. I still expect it'll be Celtic but I hope his family are aware of the huge strides we are making in developing young players. Now that we've got the scouts bringing in quality from Argentina, Spain and all over then we are going to have a fine bunch of players for him to learn with. I can't see many other clubs who can offer that.

Arsenal i'll give you, I only didn't mention them because they are a case all on their own in youth development at the moment.

Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham aren't doing it to nearly the scale we are now are they ?

Mark Platt 18 March 2007

Ross County midfielder Gary Mackay Steven will join Liverpool's Academy when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The Reds have signed a pre-contract agreement to capture the services of the highly promising young Scot.

The 17-year old from Thurso is yet to play for the Highland club's first team but impressed during a recent trial spell on Merseyside.

He helped County win the under-19 title in Scotland this year and has been capped by his country at youth level.

"Gary has always been willing to put in the hard work and training to go alongside his exceptional natural skill."
