If there were an all English final, do you think there would be any case to change the venue for logistical purposes? If it were to be us and the mancs, that'd be a pretty big travelling contingiant - one of the biggest in Europe i'd guess.

Taking into account the perception of english supporters, and the known rivalry, it could be a real headache. Give it to Athens the year after?

I know this probably wouldn't happen, has it ever been done before?

Well seeing as they made such a big fuss at the draw today about Athens hosting it, dragging out the mayor to present him with the cup for safekeeping, having booked the stadium and made all the financial arrangements and the UEFA delegates on a nice freebie to the Greek capital, in a word: NO!

Also, when it was an all Italian final a few years ago, it was still held at Old Trafford.

This was talked about the last time there was this possibility and it ended up being a Leverkusen v Real final. I say leave it alone and if we get there we enjoy the trip.

The ominous possibility of Liverpool v Man U in Athens is looming up on the horizon like the Iranian nuclear bomb. :(

It's a possibility, but's that's all it is at this stage. Still four matches to negotiate before we get to that point.

No offence, but let's just concentrate on one round at a time. ;)

Yet to play the first leg of the QF...you people are KILLING me with all this

I imagine Athens is promised a wedge wrt tourist money, whoever owns the ground would have to be compensated for loss of revenue etc.

It won't happen. An ugly precedent to start. And UEFA would argue it's europe's final, not the 2 competing club's

We reached the final then have we?

this is interesting, we haven't even played PSV yet and people are talking about a revenge match between us and the Chavs, and beyond even that people are talking about us versus the Mancs in the final

I appluad everyone's confidence in our team but first things first surely !

Lets get through the QF's and then see who we have

Mean while I hope Bolton and Arsenal go into free fall :satan:

With Henry out for the Season, Adebayoor banned for 4 games - they could certainly slip down the order. Bolton have had some easy games lately - that's about to change.

If Lpool and Man Utd were to get to the final in Athens, then it would be very worrying. There would be absolute murders and a fear for a poss ban from Europe again. It would just be going off everywhere.

UEFA will never change a final venue. There is to much money at stake/to lose for the city that is holding it.

Exactly. This would be a nightmare fixture. Particularly in a hot and volatile sort of place like Athens, where you couldn't expect the police to hold back. Our fans are usually good-natured but where the Mancs are involved they can be pretty nasty. You should have seen the mess they made of Old Trafford during the Cup semi-final last season. The Mancs are no better.

I don't agree at all with those on this thread, who are saying that you can't talk about the possibilities before we have even played PSV - one game at a time etc. etc. The ability to consider what could go wrong in the future is essential to avoiding disaster. I think that UEFA should already be considering what action they ought to take in the event of the final being Liverpool v Man U. I think a switch to Wembley would be a very good idea.

Milan and Juve had to play at Old Trafford so I can't see it.

Didn't Real and Valencia play in Paris as well?

As regards potential trouble v the Mancs, worry about that if and when we come to it. I actually think it is being overblown a bit. I know the potential is certainly there if everyone was just plonked down in Athens and just told to get on with it but there would be a huge, huge police operation probably with a massive British police presence too I'd imagine.

Exactly. I'd take it if offered it now.

It would be if we had to play the Mancs in the final. There would be just too much at stake. Both on and off the pitch. There is no way that I would enjoy it. I would go on a visit to Spitzbergen instead and hide in an ice cave.

Just been announced* that SHOULD Liverpool and Manchester United reach this season's Champions League final, Wembley Stadium PLC will stage the game.

Exactly, it's bulls*** talking about us reaching the final at this stage. PSV kicked Arsenal out of the CL and IF we make it trough to the semis it's either Chelsea or Valencia. Playing against those sides it's 50-50 so just cut the final talk for a while and let's concentrate on PSV.

No, we're going to play the final against the Mancs and Robbie Fowler is going to score the winner in the last minute.

It is written in the stars.

They did, but they didn't cause us too much trouble in the group stage, did they? I think we got the best possible draw and have a good chance of getting through to the semis. United also got a reasonable draw, I would take them to beat Roma over 2 legs.
