18 years old, what a prospect!

I have no doubt that he's ready for the premier league already. Our squad is rammed with midfielders but not many attacking ones and he'd make an excellent understudy for Gerrard.

I was tempted to post a thread on him last night myself. There must be something to this.

It's rare that a players ability catches the eye like him, and I have to say that he really looks awesome. Well worth a look from us.

He does look very talented, and is a good athlete too.

Seen that he was in the Mancs youth setup for a while is that true? How did they let him slip through the net?

Supposed to be a cert to join Spurs, pity, I think he could be a another Lennon/Huddlestone signing for them.

Surely no-one can be a "cert" to join Spurs?!

Yeah especially when Newcastle are lurking around too.

why, have we been linked to him in the papers?

Seen quite a bit of him, living in Derby, and all my mates have Season Tickets so I've heard even more about the lad...

When there was all the fuss about Huddlestone I said back then that he's too immobile, slow and needs too much time on the ball to have an impact in the Premiership - I can't believe he's a regular starter at Spurs to be honest - but Barnes is a real talent.

From what I've see he's not ready for the Premiership yet as he's too inconsistent and anonymous in too many games. He's actually been dropped/rested for many of Derby's recent games and Billy Davies himself says he's got a lot to learn.

He'll deffo be in the Premiership one day, and probably at a top-6 club, but he's not ready yet!!

Thats precisely the time to get them in and get them involved. Rooney was patchy for Everton when the Mancs spent big on him, same with Ronaldo, Walcott, any number of these youngsters, but you could see the exceptional promise in all of them.

I kind of agree, but for every Rooney there's a Le Tallec...

The standard of reserve team football is so poor these days that it can really affect thier progress. Rooney was a full international who had played in a major tournament when the Mancs got him, and he'd plyed his trade at a lower level with a small club before that!!

Season long loans are the future I think. It works well on other countries, and enables young player to get regular, competative football until they are ready to make the step up. I think the system they have in Spain works well with the B teams... though I'd hate Liverpool B to replace the seperate entity that is the likes of Rochdale/Tranmere/Accrington etc etc. I cannot see a long term future in this country without feeder clubs in this country which would act as an unofficial B team.

Derby wanted £5/6m in January, Spurs wouldn't pay that, if Derby get promoted you could be looking at double that now.

Heard that the so called deal with the spuds was all bulls*** from the mirror.
