DJS Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 That is exactly what's hurting chelsea now. Buying expensive stars is great, when everything in the garden is rosey. But when the going gets tough, the greedy mercenaries get found out and it exposes the lack of hunger. Most of those players at Chelsea went for the money and lack the desire and passion required to slug it out, when times are hard. You dont win titles by playing nice passes and displaying exquisite touches when you're 3-0 up and playing keepball. You win titles by working your backsides off and putting your body on the line, to cover the holes that appear when things arent going your way. That's why titles are earnt, not bought, And that's why, in the shape of players like Ashley Cole, Ballack, Kalou and Shevchenko, Chelsea's title challenge is dying out. They're here for the money and the glory, but they arent prepared to give 100% to actually earn it. The big money mercenaries. Aside from not wanting Man Utd to win the title, the exposure of these mercenaries, through the form of their failure, is extremely satisfying to watch.
Crazy Horse Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Thought you were talking about your old boss... It'll be remarkable if the Abramovic revolution ends up with just two league titles to show for it. How I'll laugh.
Rimbeux Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I think it's the civil war myself, which agreed is a consequence of money and power abuses. They were bobbing on fine this season till Terry got injured, even dealt with two keepers out, just needed fixing on Jan 1, but suddenly no...
Stevie H Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 too many egos in one place, not sustainable.
Guest Anders Honoré Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 To be honest, I think Chelsea under Mounrinho has been characterised by superior physique and workrate much moreso than exquisite passing and neat touches. They grind teams into the ground instead of outpassing them.
Sheida V Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 They have their 3 first choice centre backs injured, if we had that we'd be stuffed, too. I do agree with the idea of this post but I think most of all it is down to these injuries than who they've bought. If anything, Chelsea have shown that the title CAN be bought. But long term success and prestige can't.
Guest Scot Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Mourinho's a mouth. He's the reason for the strife.
Senrab_nhoj Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 too many egos in one place, not sustainable. Bit like on here you mean?
Bootle Buck Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Mourinho inherited a team that was on the up with a great base of players like Terry, Cole, Cech, Robben, Makelele, Duff, Parker, Bridge Gallas, Gudjohnsen and Crespo who with a few additions would have challenged for the league under Ranieri. Mourinho came in and banged on about his 23 man squad and went out and spent lots of dosh on the likes of Carvalho, Ferriera, Drogba, SWP and Drogba and managed to win two championships. This summer with the addition of Cole, Sheva, Ballack, they have gone backwards. He has sent the likes of Duff, Parker, Crespo, Gallas, Gudjohnsen and hasn't replaced them with anything better. His management and his owner have got it wrong on a very expensive basis.
John am Rhein Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 To be honest, I think Chelsea under Mounrinho has been characterised by superior physique and workrate much moreso than exquisite passing and neat touches. They grind teams into the ground instead of outpassing them. At least they did. In their apparent desire to acquire a more aesthetically pleasing style of play they've undermined the basis of their own success. It's a familar story, not least to Liverpool in the past few years.
growler Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 when you pay 20mil for carvalho, 7 for bridge, 17 for Duff, 15 for Ferriera, 17 for makelelelelele, 25 for essien, , 16 for crespo, 15 for the druggie, 16 for Veron, 24 for drogba, 30 for sheva, 15(?) for cashley, 16 for obi mikel, 12 (?) for kalou and 21 for SWeeP and 150p/w for Ballack, your problems are your own. Sorry, you should have kept Huth and Gallas. Its interesting that the best players of the russian era were there before Boringho. Cech, Terry, Lampard, Robben, Mak etc. Also, funny how performance wise they have gone backwards in performance too.
fyds Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 They have their 3 first choice centre backs injured, if we had that we'd be stuffed, too. I do agree with the idea of this post but I think most of all it is down to these injuries than who they've bought. That's not the reason Drogba didn't get a sniff, Stevie, Aurelio and Alonso ran the midfield, Lampard was lost, Pennant mugged Ashley Cole, Kuyt worked like a pig and Finnan bottled up SWP, though is it? We have a very young CB in Agger and Aurelio, Pennant and Kuyt (all starters) all still bedding in and we did them over Just because their first choice CB partnership was not available? We were miles better - they have recently lost their way - Scot is at least partially right...Mourinho's gob. I'd add some workshy 'superstars who are believeing thier own publicity and Abramovich's ego.

Carvalho, Essien and Drogba have probably been their best players this season, all signed by Mourinho.
