'"Three years ago we had players like Diouf and Cheyrou who we couldn't sell. Look at the value of their replacements compared to he price we paid for them.'

Dont agree with him dis crediting the carling cup just a few lines after bigging up the fa cup to be honest. The club exists to be a source of pride to the city of liverpool (and its followers) and does this mainly by winning matches and trophies. The only pride I felt against arsenal in both games was the 40 odd thousand in the stands.

But s*** happens sometimes and f***ing well said Rafa. He knows what he'll be judged on (premiership title) and he knows that we're making mistakes on the way but is supremly confident we'll make it. Well in

Glad he came out and said that and cleared the air. Though in six months time someone like Gravy will probably pop back up after we've lost a pre-season match or something and drag back up the original mis-interpretation of his comments ...

Need to put this in a sticky so it's not so easily forgotten:

The board brought me to win the Premiership, not to get to the semi-final of the Carling Cup. My relationship with them is fantastic and they have been doing their best for a long time to help bring more success.

Great quotes from him there :D

Thought this was interesting too:

In a hectic few days, the Lucas Neill and Javier Mascherano sagas are close to a successful conclusion after a long chase.

Hate it when little snippets of info claim something is done with nothing to back it up with, except previous history of knowing whats going on! Just gotta wait I guess

When Rafa speaks like that, it makes me realise why he's the best and I'm just a knee-jerking pisshead with no idea :(

But in my defence defeats hurt me though, but it's the manner of the defeat that cuts deeply and Tuesdays' was a shocker.

No one has said it wasn't - but sometimes it pays to take some time before reaching for the keyboard ;)

In your case, I'd say at least a month after each defeat...

rafa knows that to truly appreciate winning, you must have first tasted the most horrible defeat.

he's just trying to make it feel even better when we win for us.

Why? Outside the UK the Carling Cup barely registers the FA Cup on the other hand...

Someon rightly pointed out Arsenal's 6-1 defeat to United, United's 5-0 to Newcastle, and more.

Freaky results happen. United took a wallopping off 'Boro a year or two ago.

Our reserves losing by three goals doesn't amount to anything, realistically. Losing the FA cup to the side next to us in the league is hardly earth shattering either. Shame, but that's how it goes.

I think Rafa is a brilliant manager and I don't just mean the team.

He is setting the agenda for the club. First team building; need for investment; bigger stadium; more investment in youth and potentialy top class players.

Setting priorities. The pinnacle being winning the Premiership then European Cup, FA Cup and then League Cup.

Rotating the squad with the whole season in mind, utilising the squad to develop talent and win games according to his priorities.

Developing hugely successful relationships. The players ( who all say he is briiliant ) the fans (who by and large idolise him) the media ( he is media savvy and comfortable in the role as spokesperson for the club and more importantly handles the media well, re-butting falsehoods and sensationalism and quite appropriately pointing out when they "get at him" stating clearly "ok critisise me but look at the trophies we've won using my methods."

The main thing about him and what marks him out as a great man and manager is that you can trust him. He doesn't spout s*** e, he is straightforward and honest. He makes decisions ( which are usually correct ) but when they aren't or don't bare fruition, he corrects them and moves on.

We are truly lucky to have this man as the manager of the club. I hope (and no doubt he does to) ;) that he takes this club to winning the League and many more trophies. But you can bet your bottom dollar that he'll leave the club at every level in a better position than he inherited it.

"The future of Liverpool is not the semi-final of the Carling Cup, it is challenging for the Premiership and Champions League. The Carling Cup is always a good option, but it is not the biggest priority."

That won't go down well with T Smith, S Allardyce or any other "expert" out there...but I agree with Rafa.

the fact of the matter is we're nearly healf way into the transfer window and still haven't signed a player we've been interested in for months. admittedly we have made some signings but they've all been kiddies on loan. i do wonder how much actual weight there was in rafa's original comments.
