Bootle Buck Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 When the only chance they get is the League Cup. Looking at that Arsenal team yesterday and the amount of young kids who have been given a chance is staggering. EboueToureClichySenderosDjourouFabregasFlaminiBillong Are all youngsters who have come through the ranks at Arsenal yet have been given opportunities. They have also brought in young talent like Van Persie, Adeboyor and Walcott who have already been given chances to play. We on the other hand have not given any youngsters a chance in the league apart from Agger and even then he isn't given an extended run. Where are the youngsters from the academy? Did they break the mold after Owen/Gerrard/Carragher? Why are they not pressurizing the first team squad for places. Does Rafa not have faith in the youngsters we have available? Look at our some of our signings this summer like Gonzalez, Bellamy, Pennant, Palletta and Aurellio and see how many of those players will get a chance to prove themselves as a first team regular before being discarded. Or watch the likes of Peltier and see how long it is before he is moved on to Stockport or Bury.
Billy Dane Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 could also argue that our coaching set up isn't good enough.
Bootle Buck Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 Maybe they just aren't good enough? Then we need some better scouts and coaches
Huyton_Red Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 We dont spend so much money on the academy do we, it cost a lot to build and set up but I imagine the running costs now are not that much
Maldini Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Not a single one of them came through the Arsenal set-up, most of them were signed when they were over 20. Only Senderos and Djourou were signed at 16/17 and went straight into the reserve set-up and Fabregas was signed at 16 and went straight into the first team. We dont spend so much money on the academy do we, it cost a lot to build and set up but I imagine the running costs now are not that much£2-3m a year
sutty Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 One thing Wenger does seem to have is a great plug in to the french speaking african talent...
johngibo YPC Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Its always been hard to make it at Liverpool. Throughout history we have never had more than 2 or 3 scouse players in the team
RP Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 They've all come through the ranks at Arsenal?? Eboue - joined Arsenal last year, aged 22Toure - joined Arsenal aged 21Clichy - joined Arsenal aged 18Senderos - joined Arsenal aged 18Djourou - joined Arsenal aged 16Fabregas - joined Arsenal aged 16Flamini - joined Arsenal aged 20Billong - pardon??? And what about all the bright young Arsenal players who have genuinely come through the ranks who cannot get a look in and have either been loaned out or sold? e.g. the likes of David Bentley or the lads on loan at Birmingham??
Stevie H Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 One thing Wenger does seem to have is a great plug in to the french speaking african talent...are you saying that he has a penchant for young boys? Eskimo Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Does Rafa not have faith in the youngsters we have available? Obviously not that's why he went out and bought a load of new players for the future..
Ostrich Man Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 are you saying that he has a penchant for young boys?aliadiere, sidwell, stack. . .there's loads of them.what about yer man they spent a million on when he was 12 or something, played a handful of games, went out on loan, you know the criminal one. what happened to him?

How many 20/21 year olds have come to Liverpool in the past 5 years and made the grade. It's not like any of those were household names or even established players. FFS they signed Toure for 150,000. Also how many Liverpool Academy youngsters are currently in the premiership? There are many ex-Arsenal youngsters playing their trade there. The whole purpose of the academy is to produce young players capable of playing in the first team something we haven't done in years. If they don't make it at Liverpool they usually end up in the lower leagues. In is no coincidence that Arsenal can attract the likes of Walcott and the young Barca starlett. They know they will be given a chance. Obviously not that's why he went out and bought a load of new players for the future.. How long will we here "One for the future" Seem to remember hearing that about Welsh, Otsemebor, Newby, Mellor, Potter et al.
Guest Cameron Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Feeder clubs is the answer. And I don't mean the likes of Crewe.
Eskimo Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 How long will we here "One for the future" Seem to remember hearing that about Welsh, Otsemebor, Newby, Mellor, Potter et al. The biggest problem was the fact that our reserve team has been clogged up with far too many senior players, the likes of Traore, Diao and the Cheyrou's of this world. The natural progression is, or should be, youth-reserve-first team, in Spain senior players do not play in the B team (reserve team) unless its to get fitness back after injury and that how it should be IMO.

Maldini Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Rafa has changed it all around since he came in, we've signed loads of young players. Even the academy has changed, we've started "bending" the rules by all accounts, which is the REAL reason Arsenal have been able ot attract all these players.

Coyler Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Throughout history we have never had more than 2 or 3 scouse players in the teamThat sounds about right.
Bootle Buck Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 Ex reds kids? Thompson, Murphy, Owen... Ex arsenal kids Cole, Bentley, Pennant? Anymore? Sidwell, Jerome Thomas, Boa Morte, Matthew Upson (granted he's dropped a league). Anelka might be stretching it but he was only a kid when he played for them.
sutty Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 You can't have Upson! Else we can have Mellor, Otsemaboor etc
