Steven Gerrard and Xabi Alonso might be the two midfielders at Liverpool that everyone wants to talk about right now but for Rafael Benitez, Momo Sissoko is the player on his mind right now.

Despite a Man of the Match performance against Chelsea in the Community Shield, Sissoko is not the type of player who will ever grab many headlines but his importance to the Red cause is never underestimated by the Liverpool manager.

"Momo was one of the most important players for us last season," he says, "and I was really surprised that he didn't even get a mention the Young Player awards. I can't think of many better.

"He is a young player who every manager in the Premiership would want in his squad, and I would have thought that would have made him a contender. His running is incredible. He is an athlete, almost like a Kenyan middle-distance runner, and even though people don't seem to talk about him, he is very important to this team."

"He is not the finished article, but he is such a good worker. You tell him he needs to improve something and he is practise, practise, practise every day."

Don't think he's been near his best since returning from injury by any stretch of the imagination.

True.

He started the season in great form against Haifa and Chelsea. But since coming back he's been a bit out of sorts. He'll be ok though, he's just getting started :D

He must be one of the fittest players in our squad! I wonder if Rafa will let us see the stats...

Kuyt might be able to give him a run for his money though.

I suspect he's more than just the fittest player in our squad. My guess would be that Momo would beat anyone in the premier league at any distance between 5k and a marathon in a race.

he had a funny game today I think.

He worked his heart out as always, and I really think he saw more of the ball than anyone. And he actually had some right good passes and plays in attacking areas, which was nice to see. But he also had some head shacking moments when he didn't quite know what to do with the ball when he had it. Although you could say - thats cos he saw so much of the ball - he can't always get it right :D

He's still learning, he's still fighting, and he's still gonna get so much better.

I love The Momo.

One thing about him today and his performance - he was fasting, as it's now Ramadan, yet after seeing him haring about the pitch like he did, you wouldn't think so.

He's just awesome.

he did well today. Worked hard, saw a lot of the ball and his distribution was decent without being outstanding.

its Ramadan tomorrow isn't it?

thought he was not very good today to be honest - continually gave the ball away and lost posession.

he is however a nightmare to play against as he hassles and harries all the time.

Don't think he gave it away that much...worked hard - not brilliant but one of our better performers.

Think he was trying to do too much at times but he wasn't the only one.

Momo doesn't need to work at his long balls at all. There are other players in the team who are responsible for that.

Momo is exciting. The player who does all the dirty work and excells in it.

Momo is not a player for 50 yards passes. He's one of the best at "dust cleaning" in midfield.

He'll get better and better. Cant wait for that, tbh.
