Guest magicsushi Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Hello people, Firstly, my apologies if this would be better suited to the Tickets forum or just not welcome at all! Myself and a friend are travelling up (via train) to the Newcastle game on September 20th (wednesday night game). Can somebody recommend somewhere we could stay fairly close to Anfield (basically somewhere that won't cost a huge taxi fare to get to and that is pretty cheap in itself) for the night before our train journey the following morning Many thanks for any help
smithdown Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Going into town won't cost you a fortune in a cab, mate. Book yourself into one in the city centre.

Don't really want to be spending more than about £30-40. Don't need anything other than a bed for the night

Poolfrog Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Don't really want to be spending more than about £30-40. Don't need anything other than a bed for the night Try the Campanile Hotel by the Albert Dock. A shade over £40 probably, but excellent value. The Campanile in Runcorn is also a good option. Not as daft as it sounds as it's only 20 minutes by train from Liverpool to Runcorn (trains more or less every half-hour I recall) and the Campanile there is right by the station (just past the Railway pub, so you can even get a pint within 50 yards of the hotel). It's a great fall-back position when central Liverpool hotels are full, for the sake of a 20 minute train journey. I even managed to book rooms there for Grand National weekend when you couldn't get a hotel in Liverpool for love nor money. Also, Runcorn is the first stop for Virgin trains out of Liverpool, so it couldn't be more convenient if you're travelling down south. In fact it's more convenient than getting to Lime St from most downtown Liverpool hotels

Guest magicsushi Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 (edited) I have a twin room booked in the Travelodge in the city centre for that night & it looks like I won't be using it after all. If you want I can give you the details of it ? I think its about £47 or so. I was going to PM you but it says I can't access that feature on the board or something. Can you send me an email please? magicsushi at gmail.com. Thanks Everybody else, thanks a lot for the advice and recommendations! Edited August 30, 2006 by magicsushi

Benitez Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 the Adelphi ..................i am not telling you about the wonderful reviews it gets from locals and OOT'ers! Tripadvisor.com reviews for the Adelphi are hysterical. it's one of the hotels with the worst ratings there, some right mad reviews.
jon_hall Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I think Tony is charging £20 a night, i can check with him as i will be in the oakie sunday Surely you'll be in there before sunday?
oakie bob Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Surely you'll be in there before sunday? Nah, Carl has gone to Cuba today, and i have guests arriving tomorrow for the weekend..............Guilivers World for me on satdee
Guest Jack Bauer Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 The Adelphi is the worst hotel in the world.
johngibo YPC Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 seems like the Adelphi has made the news today http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0100new...-name_page.html
Poolfrog Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 seems like the Adelphi has made the news today http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0100new...-name_page.html I've stayed there one or two times. One interesting fact is that one of the big ballrooms there is a replica of one of the ballrooms on the Titanic. I thank you
jon_hall Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 One thing getting robbed, but dying in the swimming pool with a so called lifeguard in there is even worse.
Will Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I have stayed in the Adelphi a couple of times - I quite enjoyed its faded glamour. Over-priced for what it is though, for sure
Gunga Din Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Thanks Poolfrog, what's the closest station to Anfield itself? just get a cab from the city centre, its about a fiver, and far quicker and cheaper. there are no stations that close to the ground anyway
