Jezzman Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 I'll be going to China and Singapore for a few weeks late August early September. I'll be in Shanghai on the 26. Aug. when Shanghai Shenhua plays Xi'an Chanba. I've asked my local contact to get me a ticket for the game, which as I understand it is a local derby of some sorts. I don't know anything about Chinese footy but apparently Carsten Jancker, the old German striker plays for Shanghai and so do the Croat Jovanovic and quite a lot of south americans. I don't know what to expect but there'll be 35'000 spectators and according to my colleagues who's stationed there, the Chinese have gone mental over footy the last decade, so hopefully it'll be funny as hell Has anyone had the pleasure of going to a game out there? This is the stadium in Shanghai:
Hassony Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 chinese football is very poor considering its population, they are not even one of the top 6 teams in asia
Andy @ Allerton Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 chinese football is very poor considering its population, they are not even one of the top 6 teams in asia But do they sell ale in the ground?
Hassony Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 But do they sell ale in the ground?not sure, but they probably sell hot dogs
Andy @ Allerton Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 not sure, but they probably sell hot dogs Find out about the ale If they don't - it's rubbish - if they do - it 's ace!
12twelve Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 The quality of Chinese football is very very poor. The crowd should be good fun though. Former bitter Li Wai-feng is captain of the Shanghai side, so learn your chinese swear words before entering!
Scally the Wag Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 A chance to show off my vocab then... p.s. (12x12) How are you watching the game on Wednesday?
_00_deathscar Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Ah b******s my dad took away cable tv Now all i've got is ESPN/Star...
philippe Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I live in Qingdao on the east coast (middle between Shanghai and Beijing). I went to a game here last year, and it is indeed really poor. As for Shanghai - Xi'an being a local derby, I'm not sure... Xi'an is like 4'000 Km away, in the middle of the country...

As for Shanghai - Xi'an being a local derby, I'm not sure... Xi'an is like 4'000 Km away, in the middle of the country... The Xi'an club used to be situated in Shanghai but moved due to some financial issue... anyway, that's what I read and why I called it a derby, which it probably isn't reading your post, sorry..
12twelve Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Shanghai came over to HK at the weekend to play an exhibition match, Jancker is slow as feck! Couldn't believe how far he's fallen ... poor player playing in a very poor side
Ronnie Whelan Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Karsten Janker is possibly one of the worst footballers i have ever seen.
